DD2 bought herself a 2005 Mini Cooper with 185,000 kms on the clock.
She’s only a learner so after she’d driven to work on Thursday I drove home. Got to the hilly bit and it wouldn’t change gear. Pretty certain it was staying in 3rd and was reving at just on 5,000rpms.
Pulled over to the side of the road, turned the engine off and restarted - everything was fine after that.
I really don’t know much about automatics which is why I’m asking my question here.
So, my question is - could the fact I was running the front and rear wipers, the aircon, the headlights AND had my phone plugged into the radios USB port have anything to do with the car not changing gear? (I don’t think so but I’m grasping at straws really). I turned the aircon off when I restarted and drove off.
Is a transmission fluid change likely to help? It was last changed in 2017, and 40,000kms ago.
Is this likely to be a more serious transmission issue, that will cost DD2 a fortune? She’s literally only had the car a week now and wants to be able to drive it.
We’ve got calls into local garages to see which will be able to help but none of them so far have dealt with a 6speed steptronic cvt Mini Cooper (it’s all 4wds and utes round here).
