Another car question - Honda Shuttle vs Honda Stream vs Corolla Verso

Does anybody have one of the above? I have a Zafira and the 2 rear seats just aren't big enough for large children; I have a feeling those in the Corolla are the same. I was peering into a Shuttle in Tesco's car park today and its rear seats look great - have not seen a Stream to peer into since I started pondering. (Obviously I am after another 7-seater whose seats fold into the boot floor. The other thing I dislike about the Zafira's seats is that the middle row doesn't split so you have to slide the whole thing forward.)

The Shuttle seems to only come with a 2.3 petrol engine - no diesel - so it sounds a bit expensive to run. Is the Stream the same? Any other cars in this class I haven't thought about?

Helpful comments, please!

We have a shuttle janh, and love it.

I thought you did, lou! I did a search earlier on the Shuttle and you popped up on all the threads going "it's lovely!"

Key questions:

What is mpg like on general running around?

Can adults fit in 3rd row comfortably?

Do middle row seats fold flat or just slide about?

Does 3rd row fold as 2 units or 1?

I thenk you!!!!

(Actually I have been having a very googly afternoon, and I think what I really really want is a Renault Grand Scenic. As they have only just come out they are unavailable under about £13.5K for the 1.9 diesel though...)

Well I can't answer your question directly but can tell you I ADORE my Avensys, have told DH we will swap it for another one, an Avensys verso probably
We went for Toyota rather than Honda as DH (who did many spreadhseets to compare) said it was cheaper to maintain, garage costs and all....
I have had a Renault before.... the quality is just not the same, feels a lot more plasticky in my opinion.

JanH · 04/10/2004 17:32

Thanks for that, Sandh! I had vaguely thought about the Avensis too but as it's a big car (Zafira is based on Astra, Shuttle is based on Civic I think, both medium sized like the Corolla) I discounted it - I mean if I'm going to get a big one I might as well get a full-size MPV! Also the reviews say the the 3rd row seats are still quite small.

Reviews for the Renault are excellent so far and apparently the original Scenic has been v reliable; latest Renaults aren't as good though....but then again it has a 5* NCAP score and is one of the best for pedestrian safety too...there are so many things to consider!

Hello

Firstly we have the 6 seater, so seating arrabgements and folding may be diff. The 6 seater has a better review than the 7 for some reason, but the walk through aisle down the middle is handy with kids.

Mpg is ok, ours is a 1998 version. It's not the best in it's class but it isn't the worst either.

Back row is perfectly fine for adults. The car is pretty roomy actually.

Middle row seats will be diff for you if you want a 7 seater, but ours can come out completely very easily. IF i remember, next time i speak to my sis I will ask her if her shuttle was a 7 seater and ask her about it.

Back row folds down in one unit on our car. It's easy peasy, and folds down flat .

Boot is not huge but deep. We can get ds's wheelchair in no probs, and a bit of shopping around it as well.

Downside is they seem expensive to repair.

We love it though. It's v nippy too, as lots of people find out when they pull up next to us at the lights expecting to jump ahead and burn us off!

Seats are v comfy. Ours are leather, but I don't know if that comes as standard.

Thre aren't many about either, so you tend to get people stopping you and asking what it's like to drive etc.

I have a Honda Odessey, Jap import version of the shuttle. I have only had it for 2 weeks and we love it. It is also the 6 seater version, which is great for the kids to get through to the back.

The imports are much better on spec, though, which means windows are tinted, has an extra high roof, better wheels, all electrics etc. Personally I find the uk version a bit bland.

Mine is the 2.2, slightly older (1997). And it is thirsty on petrol, but the tank is quite small so it isn't as pricey to fill up!

We also looked at the Mitsubishi spacewagon (chariot is the import version) which have really good 2.3 direct fuel engines. But I'm not sure how well the seats fold away.

We have tinted windows too, I wonder if ours was an import, bearing in mind it has leather seats as well, and is all electric?
