What car do I need?

Need it to be safe and reliable. Cheap to run and repair. Don't care about bells and whistles and looks. Budget up to £10k. Mileage up to 20k. Do ca 12k a year, incl lots of motorway driving but also ferrying children. Have 2 tall children. Currently driving a 1.6 Focus. Need that kind of boot I think. What would you recommend?

You could buy a brand new Dacia Logan MCV with that budget.

Make sure you go for the TCe 90 engine rather than the SCe 75 if you want a petrol engine, although personally I'd be tempted to try and find an extra couple of thousand for the diesel.

Skoda Octavia. Solid and reliable, lots of legroom, huge boot

I agree with the Octavia. We had a Mark 1 Octavia for 8 years and it was great.

It's not a bad shout that. Roomy and cheap to run. But the basic ones are very basic and seem like something from another era.

I think I'd rather have a used Skoda.
