I thought a swimsuit would be a nice non-toy birthday present. The little girl in question will be 4 years old and is quite well built. Er, anything I should be thinking about?? Strap types, best brands?

For a 4yo I'd go for a pretty one-piece. MiniMode at Boots do some really nice ones. They're very reasonabl-priced so perhaps you could get a swim bag with her favourite character on it to go with it? (depending on what you want to spend)

My dd has got a great one by Zoggs. It just has simple shoulder straps and a great pink/orange piranha design. I think I did get a size larger than her actual size though.

Woolworths ones are good and they do some good girly designs. Next are good too. Wouldnt advise the ones with thin shoulder straps they never seem to stay up on my girls. You might get some bargains now as its the end of the season.

No thin straps - check.

Liked the piranha idea but haven't been able to track it down.

Hadn't thought of a swimbag, like that too.

I got the Zoggs one from a friend who used to sell clothes but I think you can get them from sports shops and I did see some Zoggs stuff in the schoolwear shop the other day.

Ended up buying a great fishy Speedo swim bag - thanks for the idea!
