Hi just wanted some advice really.

About a month ago dh bought a car from a private garage all was ok with car and paperwork. The salesperson as a family friend so very helpful.

Yesterday after many months of searching we finally bought a car for me again from the same dealer. He gave all paperwork including the V5C/2 for new owners. Before buying vehicle i did all necessary checks which all came back clear. Today i was able to insure the car MOT was completed before sale and not due for 12 months now. However i went online to tax my car using the number plates and 12 digit reference number off the V5C/2 but it keeps saying its not recognised.

So i called helpline to do over phone and everytime i put in the 12 digit reference number it comes up with a different number plate?

Not sure what to think has anyone got any expeeience in this situation. Dh spoke to dealer he advised going to post office with document and they will do there straight ways. Any understanding of matter will be appreciated.

Are u using the right reference number? In the V5c open it to the green slip, new keepers part - that's the correct 12 digit ref no. If it doesn't work, ring DVLA Monday
