Looking for recommendations for family sized SUV

So we are a family of 5, DCs are fast approaching teen years and so we are looking for something that won’t make them feel too squashed in the back. Currently have an smax which we’re looking to replace. We’ll be going for newish secondhand but 10-12k budget. Toying with another smax, kuga, sportage, xtrail, Tiguan or outlander. Legroom for the middle seat will be a big decider. Any help or opinions much appreciated

We just got a Sorrento. It's fab, the back back row fits 2 adults comfortably (I'm not a small person!) Good room in the middle too. It's not much bigger than a 5 seater somehow, so we manage to park it just fine in our inner city neighbourhood.

Kia Sorrento

I have a Tuscon and I love it, loads and loads of space. I've also had a Tiguan which was also great but the boot in the Tuscon is bigger!

RAV4 has loads of space in the back - we love ours

Not an SUV but there is tons of room in the back of the Citreon Picasso, and 3 proper seats.

I'd stick with an S-Max. Or a Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan, SEAT Alhambra, which are all a bit squarer so will feel more light and airy (because bigger windows).

Or look at a large estate -- Skoda Superb springs to mind, they are cavernous and have tons of room in the back. Mercedes E Class is good too but you'd be looking at quite an old one with your budget.

SUVs tend not to be terribly space-efficient. You'd have to get a really big one XC90, Kia Sorrento, Mercedes ML/GLE, Nissan Pathfinder to get similar space to what you've got now. The S-Max is an extremely well-packaged car. If you went for a Kuga, Sportage or X-Trail you'd be losing space.

I've been looking at this obsessively extensively and have settled on a Volvo XC90. So much boot space and doesn't feel like a tank to drive.

Tiguan is very nice, excellent build quality. I only buy German VW/Audi

With your budget I agree with a pp that you should really stick to an MPV (such as Grand Picasso, Galaxy, Alhambra, S Max) and not go for SUVs. You will get three proper seats in the second row in a lot of these cars, and you'll get proper usable flexible space.

I know the fashion dictates otherwise, and everyone "needs" to have SUVs, but these are the cars which suit your needs.

Hope this helps.

I got a Mazda cx5 tho it was more than your budge (also I went top spec so maybe you can find it for 14/15k now for the lower one)
it's got plenty of space in the back but maybe not as much for the middle one

I did look into Sportage as well

have you otherwise looked at the Peugeot 5008 which is a7 seater> looks like with a lot of space inside
