Which kids' scooters would you recommend?

Hi everyone,

We're making plans to test and review the best scooters on the market (for toddlers and children aged 5+), and we'd love to hear your favourites.

Which scooters have you been impressed by over the last couple of years? And are there any features or plus points that you paid particular attention to when buying one?

Your comments will help us to create a shortlist of scooters to test out and, ultimately, recommend to parents.

Thanks in advance! Flowers

Mini and Maxi Micro for both children, sturdy easy to use and last years.

We like JD bugg junior street. Have two dd1 has had hers for four years and it's in great condition.

Micro scooters

badg3r · 13/01/2020 19:13

Micro. Best parent advantage is that they are significantly quieter than others on concrete so you can still have a conversation without shouting!

ConfusedPupMama · 13/01/2020 19:20

Neither of my kids could figure out how to steer the micro scooter.

JellyBellies · 13/01/2020 19:34

Have a micro scooter and a decathlon one. The micro is definitely better but DS2 is perfectly happy with the decathlon one!

Also seen globber recently which looks good.

Kittywampus · 13/01/2020 19:38

We've only ever had micro scooters. We bought ours second hand but they are still going strong and it is easy to get hold of spare parts if anything needs replacing

HighlyDerangedGhosties · 13/01/2020 19:47

Micro scooters here, too.

mamaduckbone · 13/01/2020 20:05

Mini micro scooter all the way for toddlers to around 5/6.

Goldwispa · 13/01/2020 20:06

Micro

PenOrPencil · 13/01/2020 20:30

We have had mini, maxi and sprite micro scooters, they were all fab.
Anything else seemed rickety in comparison.

WoodliceInSunderland · 13/01/2020 20:55

We love the Globber as a scooter but it's an awful name! Makes me think of someone blowing snot out of their nose like gross people do in the street sometimes Envy (not envy)

Firstimer703 · 13/01/2020 21:15

Micro scooter! We have a seat & push along attachment which is fab & these can be removed as DS gets older. He loves it!

Popetthetreehugger · 13/01/2020 21:37

We gave 3 as Christmas presents for some of our DGC they are all two and half . We got John Lewis own brand with lunch bags that hang one the front . They love them .

ViserionTheDragon · 13/01/2020 21:40

We bought the Gloober 5 in 1 for two year old DS and we're really pleased with it.

Ediemccreedy · 13/01/2020 21:47

I've had mini and micro scooters in the past and recently got a Glover. Can't see any difference so far (except for the price).

Ediemccreedy · 13/01/2020 21:48

Globber

AdrenalineJunkieMummy · 13/01/2020 22:23

My son has had some rubbish scooters when he was younger (not sure where from) they use to collapse themselves. In the last few years I have bought him 2 scooters both from Halfords he does stunts or try’s to at least and they’ve never failed. As long as you get one that is welded in place and can’t collapse it now does what it needs to do & I don’t have to worry about getting annoyed and it not staying up and a whiny disappointed child! 🙂 Both scooters are very different but are both fantastic!

zonkin · 13/01/2020 23:45

Micro scooter. Have bought cheaper versions over the years (have 4 DC) and the Micro is worth the extra money

Blackbear19 · 14/01/2020 00:21

5 in 1 Globber is hopeless as a scooter until they are much bigger.
DS2 just 3 is using a 2nd hand mini micro as he wants a scooter and his brand new 5 in 1 Globber remains unloved. It isn't as good as his bike as a ride-on and the handle is too high for him as a scooter. Meanwhile the Mini micro which has been loved by 2 kids before him ok is still going strong.
DS1 is on a JD Bug Street Jr. Hes going to out grow it not than anything else.

TheGoatIsHere · 14/01/2020 00:21

Go to your nearest skate park/shop and get them to build you a custom one to your budget. You'll get a fantastic scooter, be able to test it on the park and will be easily upgradeable.

zebrapig · 14/01/2020 07:11

Globber and iScoot here.

Fismit · 14/01/2020 09:44

As a parent of older children it was difficult to get scooters that weren’t too childish, looked good and were robust. We bought oxelo scooters which were designed for adults and after much use 6years, can honestly say they were an excellent investment. I could sell them on as they are in such good condition! Build quality is first class, look cool and a smooth ride. Definitely a must for age 10+. My 18 year old son still uses it!

PlugUgly1980 · 14/01/2020 10:35

Micro scooter here too! My now 6 year old got the Micro Sprite when she was 4 and took to it straight away. My youngest, who has just turned 4 has just got his first Micro Sprite too.

QueenOfCatan · 14/01/2020 10:40

Can anybody recommend any with chunky wheels? My charges when I nannied had micros which were amazing until we took them anywhere bumpy or stony, which describes everywhere I take my daughter now!
