sandpit sand

Where can I buy sand for sandpits? Would like quite a lot as my mother has a small pond at her allotment and she is going to drain it and make it into a sandpit instead.

Your looking for Silver Sand, if you want a bit may well be cheaper from a builders merchant.

A builder's merchant will deliver it - it's either "white" or "silver" sand. Don't know how big the pond is but we needed 2 tonnes to fill our sandpit when we converted a flower bed (about 2.5m square!) Cost about £ 50 a tonne. By the way - watch out if you're just chucking the sand on top of the pond liner as if it rains then there's nowhere for the water to go. (Mind you - I suppose you'll be covering it when not in use so it shouldn't get wet).

Thanks all. Will tell my mother where to go! In the nicest possible sense, of course
