We've got 2 under 5 and twins in the way. We also regularly get visits from grandparents so ideally extra available seats. Anyone has any recommendations?

The old Toyota Previa used to have eight seats in some markets. It hasn't been sold here for a while, but you might find a used one, or a newer parallel import from Japan.

Otherwise, it has to be a van-based people carrier. The Toyota ProAce Verso, Citroen SpaceTourer and Peugeot Traveller are actually all the same vehicle underneath and are probably the best value in terms of whole-life running costs - they are certainly the best for CO2 emissions and fuel economy, by a considerable distance. They come in several different lengths and go up to nine seats. If I've understood the brochure right it's possible to have both rear rows (i.e. up to six seats) with ISOFIX on every seat as well, which is very unusual.

The Ford Tourneo is a direct competitor, as is the Hyundai i800. Don't know much about these unfortunately.

Mercedes-Benz V-class and Volkswagen Caravelle are also competitors but are many, many thousands of pounds more expensive.

We had a Mazda Bongo for 5 years count fault it, 8 adult seats, twin sunroofs, zircon auto, we still miss it now. I believe the Granvia, Alphard and Elgrands are also good. This place is local to me and did our servicing really nice people who knows his imports well.

Insurance is sometimes more expensive with Imports but try Flux, 2Gether etc as specialists are often cheap ours was £200 fully comp as a second vehicle as I just had a shed for driving to work

Ditch the grandparents and buy a nice car.
