Need a large vehicle for two adults, one child and lots of camping stuff but have only ever owned hatchbacks and rented vans for camping trips before!

Help please :)

New or second hand?
I have a 2007 Galaxy which is an absolute workhorse. Drives like a rollerskate and can fit 3 kids, lurcher dog and a week's worth of camping gear in the boot.

Second hand and as cheap as possible!

Is that good or bad?

I've had two scenics. The second one died after 4 years. Literally. Cheaper to scrap than repair. I'd never get a scenic again. Currently got a citreon which I'm loving.

Kia carens, it’s huge :-)

Saw your thread title and for one awful minute thought it was in Baby Names Grin

Sorry not helpful but getting one of those cars is a hell of a lot better than making your kids those names.

Citroen xsara picasso - we've had an 06 for 11 years. It's massive inside but reasonably economical to drive - especially on long journeys. I can fit a lot of camping gear plus 3 kids too. Ours is now 100k plus. I probably wouldn't buy one that old if I was getting one now....but it hasn't had much work needed.

magpie I thought the same! Grin

I had a Zafira - died at 5 years old (big end went?). I now have a diesel c3 Picasso. I love it, although it's now 6 years old and little problems are creeping in (I lose a lot of bulbs, radio reception gone, it got water inside a grille (I think) when it rained loads - although it emptied itself over a drier week, and a funny vibration from a pole underneath which one garage want £750 to fix but another garage say nothing needed, just ignore it Confused)

Other than that, the engine etc is all good and I like the car. It has great head space for leaning in to see to the kids, and the back doors are short so less likely to hit whatever you park next to. The back seats push forward to make a huge boot. Bear in mind it's not great for a roof box, as the car is so tall it's hard to reach. I would definitely buy another, and I don't say that about many cars!

I had a 2010 Citroen C4 Picasso. Lovely car with massive amount of space in cabin and boot.

The drive wasn't particularly fun and the seats were a bit like sitting on a sofa, but other than that it was a brilliant car and I could cope with both those minor points.

I'm on my 2nd Zafira. My old one was 15 years old when it became economically unviable to fix. This one is 6 years old, reliable so far. Thirsty compared to DH's car but he has a Fiat 500 so no use for carrying lots of stuff. We rarely use the extra seats in the boot but they occasionally come in very handy. 2 adults, 2 teens (3 when DSS is here) and 2 largeish dogs.

QuestionableMouse · 31/12/2019 23:49

I wanted a Galaxy but bought a Zafira Tourer. Has lots of toys, can fit seven adults comfortably and without the back seats up the boot is huge. Seats fold flat so it basically turns into a van which is handy. It's also not expensive to run.

We have a Rage Rover for best, other half has a nice Golf.
Six years ago I bought a diesel Picasso for going to work and general use, with 100,000 miles on it. Its now done 162000, been all over the country, moves all sorts as the seats unclip in a couple of minutes, its like a mobile skip.
Its had one service last week, 8 tyres and an exhaust back box we just can't fault it.
44MPG mix of motorway and towns
Best value car we have ever had, its quite comfy too.
