1471 in other countries apart from UK?
KangaMummy · 29/09/2004 00:13
In UK there is a system with BT that you can dial 1471 and it tells you what was the last number to telephone your number.
You can also set it to record the last 5 numbers, once it has told you after pressing 3 it will dial that number back.
There is also 1571 that will act like an answering machine and record messages if you are on the phone or out.
Both of these are FREE but you do have to pay for the return phone call.
What do other countries have?

Theres *69 here in the US to find out who was the last to call your number. I think its a dollar for each use, though. Not sure about the voice mail one, though. I hate voice mail, and have caller id, so I just look to see who called.

we have that as well - you can dial a no to see who the last caller was if you missed the call as well as setting up an answering service on your home phone. ALso have call waiting, call forwarding and party line calls where three different people can talk in the same call. Oops forget to say here in Australia that is.

Don't have it in NZ. Suggested it when I briefly worked at Telecom (seemed to remember a newspaper article about how people who left BT came back because they missed 1471)and got a not very interested reply from the marketing department, of the "oh, that will never take off" kind.

KangaMum bts put a charge on the pressing 3 to return the call bit, not sure how much, but maybe 6p PLUS the cost of the call.
KangaMummy · 29/09/2004 09:34
OMG charliecat I did not know that. I just phoned the operator and it started about 2/3 weeks ago.
Well they certainly kept that quiet
It is 6 pence not alot I know but several times a day it adds up.
1471 is still free but like you said if you press 3 they charge you.
I don't even remember seeing it in their update thing that came with the bill last week.

I started the thread because I use 1471 all the time and thought it was such a good idea and wondered if other countries had it as well.
