If you have a Lacel Kiddyguard stair gate - watch out!!

We bought a Lacel Kiddyguard stair gate 18 months ago and have been very pleased with it and that fact that it folds away like a roller blind when not in use.

However, we?ve just discovered a major problem in that the top edge of the guard seems to be prone to stretching (our 18 month old holds on to the top and tries to look over ? as do other toddlers when visiting). We only found out it had stretched too far when our daughter fell against it and in the process pushed on the top of the guard near the hooks that attach to the wall, and to our amazement disappeared through the gate and down the stairs, all 14 of them!! A very frightening experience that thankfully only resulted in a nasty bump on the head as she hit the banister at the bottom. You?ll appreciate it could have been far worse and we?re keen anyone with one of these stair gates is aware so you can check it.

Looking at the stair gate, it?s now obvious that the top of the gate has stretched and if you push next to the hooks on the wall, it is now possible to unhook it and the gate then collapses forwards.

If you have one of these stair gates PLEASE PLEASE check it?s not stretched in the same way.

take it back to where you bought it and pint out the problem.

...We've already spoken to the shop and UK trading standards who are looking into it. We hope the note helps avoid a more serious accident.
