Help! Buggy dilemma! Maclaren Quest vs Silver Cross Pop vs Jane Energy vs M&P Nipi vs Mutsy Spider

Hello Fellow Mumsnetters,

I am hoping you may be able to share your thoughts and experiences to help me with my buggy dilemma!

My DD is 12 months now and I desperately need something smaller than my Apple iCandy for nipping to shops/dropping her at nursery/public transport. It must be able to recline.

Being somewhat obsessive compulsive (argh!!)I have looked at loads of buggies and not sure which to go for.

  • Maclaren Quest - seems to be default choice for many but I am not sure wheels look big enough (have heard quite bumpy for baby)
  • Silver Cross Pop
  • Jane Energy (have heard some stories about difficulty folding)
  • Mamas and Papas Nipi (I am leaning to this at the moment, although that changes several times daily!)
  • Mutsy Spider (not managed to actually see one, but it looks very cool and I can get it much cheaper than retail price on eBay)

I ruled out the Quinny Zapp as it has no shopping basket and does not recline (and DD screamed non stop when I put her in it!!)

Please can you help me with any info that might sway my decision. DH wants nothing to do with it, but I can be sure he'll complain later!

Many thanks in advance!
V

Personally, I would go for a Maclaren Techno XT. It has a full recline and larger wheels than a Quest so is a bit easier to push.

Only my opinion here but, Maclaren is the most reliable brand among the ones you've listed, I would like it to last.

The Silver Cross looks very much like a Maclaren, so could be good. The price is superb for all the features it has.

Jane = nightmare! Not so much this model as the brand. If you have any problems with it you'll have to fight Johnston Prams (the UK importer) who generally don't want to know.

M&P, could be OK. I truthfully don't know a lot about the Nipi (am currently on Mat leave so not seen this at work yet) but the Zikos came back with tons of problems.

Mutsy Spider, again only my opinion here but they seem v expensive for what they are. They do fold fairly small but you have to scrabble around on the floor to do so. The recline is v stiff and hardly worth having as it moves so little. Also, not v stable.

I would go with the Quest and I find that our Techno is quite bulky (although it is good). Also with a 1 year old you won't need all the features of the Techno so may as well save some cash and go for a cheaper model. The mutsy I tried in a shop last year and thought that the folding instructions were fiddly and the whole thing ended up in a fairly unmanageable package once folded.
