Cheap, small electric car...no idea which one!?

We need to replace a Honda jazz for school runs, shoppings, short journeys close to home. Needs to fit 5, but be quite compact. Will be hiring rather than buying and would love an electric car - but literally no idea which one to go for. What’s the cheapest to run, Insure etc? Needs to be cheap to hire to, but we can look in to that one. Thank you

Bumping for you OP - are you really sure you don’t want another Honda Jazz? The new ones are lovely if you’re leasing. looks lovingly at Jazz on the drive

Maybe but i never enjoyed driving it to be honest. Great mpg but didn’t love driving. Plus we thought let’s go electric. Thank you though

Renault Zoe is all you want. Also can get big discount on list from new plus the 2k government grant. Total winner. We were so impressed with this.

Autocar has an interesting review of this car from a practical running point of view. It’s cheap and has a good range but they give it 3.5 stars and there is better out there. There is some issue about paying for the battery but I leave you to look into that and charging at home arrangements. However the leasing cost might persuade you.

We have have a hybrid mini - it’s a great car. More money though and now no subsidy. More expensive but it’s classier!

I've got a Zoe and I love it. what's this about a 2 grand grant? I am in Germany though.

I have no association with them, but check out Drive Electric, they have leasing deals on all kinds of electric cars. They have the 40kWh Renault Zoe for £256 per month:

They also have the new Nissan Leaf for £225. Personally I have a 2017 30kWh Leaf (the old shape). I bought it outright though, so can't comment on hiring. It's brilliant around town and the baby seat fits easily in the back. Either Leaf or Zoe would probably suit you, the Zoe is more compact though so that might swing it if parking space is an issue. The Leaf is a surprisingly long car!
