Focus v kuga

Moved from the generic products section

Bit of background; my husband and I like to camp, do outdoorsy activities and I like to pack the kitchen sink when I go away. We also have a baby and are thinking of having only one more in about 3-4 years. Husband is a fairly new driver.

We are looking to get a new car and the decision seems to be between a Ford kuga or focus.

Does anyone have any experience of either that could help us decide?

Is there a car by another manufacturer that we should look at instead?

Thank you

I've never driven a kuga but have owned a Focus. There's a lot more space in a kuga, so I would go with that. You can never have too much space when you're carting round young dc with their associated paraphernalia and camping equipment.

I used to have a focus estate and with an estate rather than a hatchback you get loads of boot space. What’s the difference in mpg as I’d have thought the Kuga would be more expensive to run if that would affect your decision?

If you’re looking at Focus then maybe consider Vauxhall Astra as well, similar size and both reliable cars. Skoda Octavia? Kia Optima?

I've had 2 x Focus and a Kuga previously. If running costs are a factor then I'd definitely go for the Focus. My Kuga was insanely expensive to run in comparison.

I actually thought I had a fuel leak with my Kuga, I seemed to be at the petrol station every few days. Whereas my trusty Focus Ecoboost was a dream in comparison.

Test drive both and see what suits your lifestyle more. I currently drive a BMW X1 which I love and is cheaper than the Kuga I had previously.

I currently drive a focus but was looking for a kuga. But actually changed to getting a Hyundai Tucson instead. Much higher spec for the same money and a lovely car. Will be strange leaving ford though.

As a general rule, estate car bodies are more useful for carting lots of stuff. SUVs such as the Kuga tend to have a different shaped load area. And they can be less capacious (of course it varies model to model).

I'd say a Focus estate will be more versatile than a Kuga, and cheaper to run too. If you're looking at the hatchback the Kuga probably edges it.

Skoda Octavia estate is also well worth a look. There's a Skoda Superb estate too, which is larger, plusher and truly cavernous.

Had both and I'd go for Kuga all the way. Avoid the 1.5 petrol engine as it's notoriously thirsty, we went for a diesel and it found it economical to run.
