Petrol or Diesel?

DD has been stationed at a new site for work it’s 30 miles each way so 60 miles a day. She’s currently got a petrol car and is spending roughly £40 a week doing a 15 mile each way journey to and from work and also going out on days off as we live a bit further out. Mainly motorway driving or dual carriageways etc.
Would need to take on some negative equity and including tax and service plan on car would take payments from 175 to 250. Petrol car has no service plan or tax included in the monthly payments and not including them on the 250 would take the monthly down to 220. Insurance would also come down.

Buy an electric car ? Plenty of secondhand ones will handle that commute easily and the running cost is far less per mile and servicing and maintenance also cheaper.

I don't think it really matters in terms of cost. IME of traveling long distances with a petrol and a diesel, I didn't notice either being significantly cheaper.

Our diesel did not agree with short distances though. The engine management light was always on when DH only ran it five miles down the road and back when he had it.
