Maxi-Cosi Cabrio car seat-when to take out newborn support?

Wondered if anyone knew the recommended age/weight you take the newborn support out. If not when did you take it out?

No not totally obvious-mine was really tucked into the black plastic at back of seat. Thought I was going to rip it but with a tug it does come out.

Genius BalletMum!
Why didn't I think of that?
That will be so much better, pity we've already done a few long journies without his headrest

NoviceKnitter · 06/08/2007 18:13

OK, here's another if we're confessing to all our secret Maxi-cosi conundrums. Does anyone else find getting it off pram frame very stiff and difficult - slightly embarrassing in carparks as you jolt this way and that, or is that just me? Any secret knacks?

trixymalixy · 06/08/2007 18:29

The black plastic rim that the sunshade fits into pulls out there's a button that you press in at the back of it and it slides out to make it easier to get the sunshade in and out.

maveta · 06/08/2007 20:56

FLIPPIN´ECK! I didn´t even know I had a sunshade! LOL! You have no idea what a difference this has just made to my life.

What a fabulous thread..

BalletMum · 06/08/2007 21:52

Oh yes - I see the button now. That is easier!!! Perhaps we should offer to sell this thread to maxi-cosi. They obviously need better instructions. Yes novice knitter I do feel slightly deranged as I struggle outside school bumping my poor dd off the wheels!! I find it easier with one foot on the frame.

Katy44 · 06/08/2007 22:23

maveta - lol, if anyone would need the sunshade!
Now I've got mine out (did that on day one) can't really get it back in again, apparently it's meant to 'click shut'
On another note, does anyone find the insert really scary and disturbing looking?

BalletMum · 06/08/2007 22:47

Yes put mine on top of wardrobe really quickly - out of sight out of mind!!

bumperlicious · 06/08/2007 23:09

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Katy44 · 07/08/2007 19:52

We should all meet up with our inserts and have a scare-the-sh*t-out-of-each-other party

andyrobo237 · 07/08/2007 20:13

Yes I also found the insert scary - just had a look in the compartment and cant see a way to alter the seat - is it a feature on the older model - we have the cabriofix?? May have to get the instructions out - prob poor English translation from Dutch - but all in all a fab car seat! We had the Maxi-cosi prioir and then the Rodi for DS who is now 5.

On another note - did anyone else spot in the small print that it says that you should only use the car seat for 5 years (not obviously for the same child!!!!) It is something to do with deterioration of the plastic? I work in the construction industry and it applies to safety helmets, so used this as an argument to DH to get a new infant seat for DS!!!!!!! Well he went for it, then found it in the instructions - so backed up my theory! If you look at the end of each strap there are two little 'dials' on it - one is the year and the other is the month of manufacture - where the arrow points to - you may need a magnifyingglass to read them - mine is 11/06 - fascinating facts!!!!

Egypt · 08/08/2007 02:40

this is enlightening. how do you alter the seat then? the mystery continues..

are u all talking about the sponge wedge insert being scary? not getting it tbh!

Katy44 · 08/08/2007 08:41

take it out and hold it up
look like a scary cult mask thingy - seatbelt holes are eye holes
or maybe i just think too hard about these things

Katy44 · 08/08/2007 08:42

not the sponge wedge
The whole seat insert thing
[Katy runs screaming from a bathroom sponge]

Smittals · 08/08/2007 11:43

re: altering the seat, there is a little grey plastic lever thing in the back compartment, which is flipped one way for little babies and then the other when they are bigger. You have to look really closely to see the markings on it. I think it has the strap passing through it too iirc - it's been a while! This is in the maxi cosio cabrio we bought at the end of last year in case the design has changed since then?

flowerybeanbag · 08/08/2007 11:47
flowerybeanbag · 08/08/2007 11:52

maybe design has changed? Mine is only about 3 months old.

Smittals · 08/08/2007 12:12

right, I am getting worried I've gone prematurely senile . I'm going out to the car park to check!!!

Smittals · 08/08/2007 12:22

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...it's not in the bloody compartment, it's bloody under the bloody seat!! Just turn the whole car seat over.

Sorry, sorry, sorry for wasting your time, however, at least now we all know our carseats just that bit more intimately... again.

flowerybeanbag · 08/08/2007 12:24

PMSL

flowerybeanbag · 08/08/2007 12:36

Still can't find anything resembling a lever. Am I being blind?

NoviceKnitter · 08/08/2007 12:40

If we give Maxi-Cosi this thread by way of an audit of the effectiveness of their instructions, do you think they'd give us all next size up car seats for when our LOs grow out of this batch?

By the way, anyone else got the flowery cover? I melted and nearly cried the first time I saw it and will probably have to keep it forever, and drag out at DD's 21st birthday party, etc etc

flowerybeanbag · 08/08/2007 12:41

I should have the flowery cover!
Not sure how DS would feel about that though...

Smittals · 08/08/2007 12:43

...the design must have changed?? Mine is purple, bought on ebay from Dorel last Dec but wasn't one of the current designs on the MC website at the time.

Egypt · 08/08/2007 12:53

pmsl. i see what you mean re: scary mask thingy. ...someone put a pic on their profile wearing it please please please

i have no lever either. bought this year - but in singapore.

......i just don't know anymore.....hmph
