Ford Smax best rear bike rack??

Cam anyone recommend a rear bike rack that doesn't require a tow bar for an smax 2017 model. It has to be at least a 4 bike carrier. Looks like that is the most you can get, is that right?
I have thule roof rack already but I I just clueless as to how people would be able to lift bikes up to put them on top of the car and i will be doing it with dp a lot so assumed a roof rack one would not be an option with an already bad back??

4cheekymonkey did you find a solution? We collect our new s max this week. We are going away in August and need a cycle carrier or roof rack for min 4 bikes. I was planning on getting the tow bar set up but discovered today we can’t have a tow bar because the car has an automatic tailgate 🙄

Hi, you shouldn't have a problem having a roof bar fitted. My only concern was that if inwanted to take the kids out on my own, how would I lift the bikes on to the top of the car? I mean how does anyone do it? Do you put a ladder next to the car and put the bikes up that way?? I have had a tow bar quote and it would cost me £400-£500 so might have to have another look into roof bar fitted ones. Good luck

I have no idea how the roof bar thing works either. I’m 5ft1!
