Is our TV on its way out?

Picture is so dark it's ridiculous, constantly looks like we're watching it on a really bright day but drawing blinds doesn't help really. Had the TV 6 years - is this what happens when the TV is dying? Hardly worth getting TVs mended these days is it?

Yep. It's a dead one. You need a new one immediately. A big, fat, eff-off plasma that increases your electricity bill by 50% !

Currys is open right now

Depend whats wrong with it. Might be worth phoning a tv repair man and describing the problem. We did that and he knew straight away what was wrong/and if worth repairing. Cost £50 to repair although he did say he didn't think we should bother if it went again (10+yrs old).

Although Desideratas suggestion sounds much more fun.

Our T.v has got a mind of its own at the moment, we've had it 7 yrs and if we try and use Teletext it turns itself off and then comes back on with a blue screen with diagonal lines accross it.
Then, if we try and watch a program it keeps turning off and on by itself every 20 mins or so, we do get a bit of a warning (screen gets a tinge of blue before it happens).
But its doing my head in, but DH says that until it stops working altogether he won't replace it.
The kids just shout at the TV and say "stupid T.V" everytime it plays its tricks.
