Does anyone have a range rover and love it

As husband approaches a midlife crisis he has decided a good car is what we need. Specifically a Range Rover sport.
Does anyone have one and love it? From what I can gather anyone I've know has had theirs in the garage more than on the road.
Surely spending so much on a car can't possibly mean it's a pile of shite.

Massive money pits every single one I know and in my area they are very common.
Lots of my friends who had them have changed to BMW X5 as their servicing and running costs are much less.

2005 model? Problematic

2019 model? Less likely to have any issues

Age of car hugely relevant.

Very nice too. My husband has had those, last one was stolen and written off and he currently has a Land Rover Discovery. Very good if you do a lot of mileage and need something fairly hardy. My husband goes to various sites project managing, so he has to plough through mud and uneven terrain.

I don't like motoring, including being a passenger, but generally feel quite safe in a car like that. There's something solid and dependable about them. Must say I didn't know they were 'money pits'.

I have a Vogue because I prefer a higher roof. I felt too squashed in the Sports. Is it a money pit? No. It was bought brand new and its been no bother whatsoever in the 3 years Ive had it.

There's 3 more various models in the family and the eldest one is about 8 years old. None of them have had any work done apart from normal servicing and all were bought brand new.

Do I love my car? No. But then Ive not loved any of the cars Ive had including my Mercedes. Ive obviously liked them though or I wouldn't have bought them. I don't really give having it much headspace to be honest. It is what it is. A nice car.

You and your child are actually safer in a Renault Clio than a Range Rover if you check the detailed ncap report.
I am married to an automotive engineer he would never buy one- we are in BMWs and Vauxhall's for a combination of safety, costs and reliability.

Yes, I’ve got a 2015 Sport HSE 3.0, had it from new. It now has 40k on the clock. It has never let me down. Very reliable, fast, spacious enough for my needs, very comfortable, great driving position, all the equipment (cameras etc) and never puts a foot wrong. It is expensive to run in terms of road tax, economy and tyres/consumable parts but in every respect it is a great car.

The biggest money pit I ever had was a Renault Grand Scenic. I bought it nearly new, it was about 8mo old, had a clean history etc. It cost me £2k in various jobs in the 14 months I kept it. Never again.

Bluntness100 · 18/06/2019 17:06

I test drove one of these and found it style over substance. I went for the Mercedes ML350 in the end and felt it was a much more solid and better built car. There really was no comparison in the drive quality. The Range Rover felt tinny.

Looking for a 2017 model.
Head height shouldn't be an issue. I'm not overly tall
Few concerns about safety. Best look into that! Cheers :)

Volvo XC90 for size and safety. Range rovers don't score well in NCAP.

Upfeet · 18/06/2019 23:36

I believe posh spice likes hers.

Doodar · 18/06/2019 23:40

We have this, our 2nd one. No height problems st all. Great on fuel, a dream to handle. No problems with either of them.
Had to have a tracker fitted and the insurance is pretty high.

YesQueen · 18/06/2019 23:41

Check cost of servicing, tyres etc. I work for LR and like them. Although not as much as the brand new Velar I took home the other day Grin shame I can't keep it

lalafafa · 18/06/2019 23:41

No problems with the one above, lovely drive too.
