What car should I get after a Fiat Multipla?

I've driven a Multipla for the last 17 years, and it's coped with my 4 children from the child car seat days through to taking my eldest off to university last year. However, it has finally reached the end of its life and I need to replace it.

I don't necessarily need 6 seats any more, 5 would be OK. I do need space for gangly teenagers and all their stuff, so a big boot. I also need a car that can tow -- small boats, so nothing too heavy, but it has to cope.

I live in London and frequently drive to the countryside, so any new car has to be good for urban and motorways, and meet the ULEZ emission criteria. I'm probably looking for a second hand car, with a budget of up to £20,000.

Any ideas, wise women of Mumsnet?

Ahh, my Multipla was my favourite ever car!

I’m no help whatsoever, am I?

I had 2 multiples before my Peugeot 5008. It's an occasional 7 seater but not massive. Very comfortable but not as quirky as my Multiplas, especially the original style first one.

We had a Renault Scenic when we lived in London for the low emissions - it was a v good car to drive and very economical. Friends with a boat trailer have a VW Touran that tows well but when we looked for a car to accommodate lanky teens, I found it to be too small (we now have a Skoda Kodiaq but probably too large for your needs).

Shockers -- I know, I'm sad about the Multipla. Mine is one of the original, funny looking ones. It even has a cassette player! But, time to move on....

Thank you all for the suggestions, I'm off to do some more googling.

Does anyone have experience of the Citroen Berlingo?
