I got a tomtom one recently and I think its great. My one cost £150 but you can pay slightly more and get more maps on it. Or you can download extra maps or so I am told.

myself and DH bot have Tom Toms - they are great
you can get them with maps for europe as well as the UK
they are very easy to use
i would recommend (have had them for 3.5 years)

We have a Garmin Nuvi which I can't fault. It is great and doubles up as a hands free for the phone.

My Nuvi is fab. Dh bought it for my birthday and the feeling of freedom is just wonderful. I always, always used to get lost, and now even if I do a bit (take third exit instead of second or whatever) the Satnav will patiently take me home!

I recently bought a Tom Tom 700 costing £199 from Dixons or Currys, it has UK and Europe maps and you can link it to your phone to get the latest traffic updates. I used it in France and it was very good. They are not however 100% reliable in that the maps will always have errors, in France it took me down a road which lead into someones drive
I would however happily recommend this one.

i have a tomtome one europe, it is fab, the newer version is an XL which is bigger screen and built in speed cameras

My DP bought me a Navman f20 Europe with the maps pre-loaded. We got a fantastic price in an ebay shop, about £50 less than you's pay retail and it's brand new, boxed, and comes with a year's warranty.

I recently used it every day when we hired a car in Sardinia and it was absolutely fantastic. We couldn't have done a fraction of those things if we'd been map reading.
