What car to buy

I know nada about cars.

I need a small car that can get in the school car park easily. I do 20 000 miles a year, it has to be diesel. Budget up to £13k. 2 kids. This is the runabout. We also have a Toureg. Am currently driving the tank that is a Volvo XC70.

We tend to keep cars for 8-10 years so I'm looking at one that will last the distance. It needs to have a decent sat nav and Bluetooth system as I'm in it a lot.

Current top pick is an 18 fiesta.

Tempted by a Skoda Fabia.

Would go Seat Ibiza but they done seem to do diesel.

Any suggestions/comments.

I think diesel is a huge mistake. Small cars are generally used for short journeys not a motorway speeds which is where diesel excels and diesel engines are heavier so in a small car make up a larger portion of the weight. You end up with lack luster performance, a more expensive engine, the fuel economy difference is not as great and you have the dpf issues.

My choice would be a petrol fiesta

I should explain I have a (white) diesel tank on my farm hence the diesel requirement.

I should also add that after this car I'll be looking at electric. I hate the environmental impact I have but at the moment electric cars are just too expensive. We're also doing some electrical work on the farm in the next 5 years and will hopefully put in an electric charging point if that will help.

Ok that makes sense. Then I'd go up a size to the Ford Focus or if you're set on a small car an Audi A1

I have a fiesta and used to drive an ibiza. The Ibiza and the Fabia are essentially the same car (same chassis, built by VW etc) if that helps in choosing between the two of them.
Nothing wrong with the Ibiza, nice car, drove well around town but absolutely gutless snd wouldnt have another one personally and I love Seat.
The fiestas really nippy, comfortable, good on long drives and around town. I have a heavy foot and it’s good on fuel.
I have an 18 plate fiesta ST line so it has a bit more on it and looks like the ST. It’s a really good car

Just buy an electric car now. With that mileage and a long ownership period you will be saving a lot of money because electricity is much cheaper per mile than diesel.
