Wetsuits for children

Last year my ds2 froze on the beach. He is very skinny - no fat to keep him warm. Same with dd1. We've got 2 weeks this year and am thinking of investing in a couple of shorty wetsuits for them. Anyone got any recommendations? Prices vary greatly, but obviously I want them to work and will pay for that, but if the cheaper ones are just as good I'll go for those.

I just bought mine second hand and they've been absolutely brilliant! I should think for bumming around on the beach the cheap ones should be fine plus you save the hassle of not having to be quite so sunscreen vigilant under the wetsuits

Thanks - I have been hanging around on ebay. Dh thinks I'm being a bit weird, but ds2 was blue last year! How did you find the fit?

Aldi had some fairly decent looking ones recently for around a tenner.

they are tight - as they're meant to be! I asked for the back of neck to crotch measurement. If you are going to Devon/cornwall it may be easier to buy some cheap new ones as they will def fit? I had a few mistakes buying too big but I don't mind hanging onto them but as I've got 4 dc I know they'll all get used and abused IYSWIM

Hmm - I'd better go smaller for ds2 as just 7 and a bit on the short side. I've got 4 dc too so I know they'll get used in the future.

Thanks - I'll have a look in Sainsburys and get my mum to look in Aldi!

have you a G£T's or BITZ shop,they are really cheap,around £12 down here on south coast.

WAit till you get to resort.
WE got ours from cheapo beach shop.
But thye do the job.
Also sell them in 'The Range' if you have one nearby.

If you're going to a UK beach, long ones are better than shorty ones except in very hot weather or with a plumpish child. Ours wear their long ones from April to November including in the summer holidays apart from the occasional scorching day. They will stay in the sea or bodging around on the beach for hours -- their cousins with short ones tend so get chilly after an hour or so.

Ebay often have them, so check there.

DS has this one, it is a pukka wetsuit, probably better made than mine! He wears it when we go to the pool, because otherwise the water is a bit cold for it. He's hilariously buoyant in it though!

Do you have a 'Home Bargains' shop? Ours has them in for about £10/£12 depending on size

DD lives in hers in the summer. I'd say for what you're using it for a cheap one is absolutely fine. I'd agree too about waiting until you get there and buy one then as it's better to have one that fits well.

You've all been a great help - thanks! I'll go for cheaper ones and I'll look for good deals online or if not, wait until we get there.
