Which family car?

Monkey2333 · 18/03/2019 17:56

I am going to swap my small car for something larger in the next month. We are a family of 2 adults and a 4yr old and 7 year old, we only drive approx 6,000 miles pa but we do camp so need a biggish boot.
I am planning on buying a used car which is a few years old (3 years max). Current contenders are Ford C-Max, Nissan Qashquai, Hyundai Tucson. Does anyone have any views on these or others please? In many ways I'm spoilt for choice...

The boot in the qashqai is crap. Cmax is great. We have a fugly zafira but drive to France a lot, dts and dog, we need the space.

Does it need to be a 4x4? If not the Kia and Hyundai estates have huge boots. You get quite a lot of space for your money.

The c max is ok. It’s quite boxy, but I like driving it. Massive boot and loads of room on the back seat

I would add the Skoda Octavia to my short list. They have an excellent reputation. If you’re only driving 6k miles a year, petrol is a no-brainier. Don’t even consider a diesel.

Hey I have a hyundai tucson. When I started my search for a car I needed something with a large boot to fit my daughters wheelchair and other equipment, I went and saw so many but the Tucson was definitely the biggest :)

I got a Kia Sportage last year when I found out I needed to fit a double buggy in the boot, been really happy with it

We're running a 2011 C-Max which we've had for 4 years now. It's quite practical and has been pretty reliable. Before that we had an Octavia estate, which I could also recommend. You get a lot more boot space with the Octavia.

With that kind of budget I wouldn't rule out a Dacia Logan MCV. You could get a brand new one with everything on it, as well as the three year warranty.

They have absolutely massive boots, and very low running costs.

Agree the qashqai boot is very small - the interior of the car is cramped too. The whole car is pretty poor IMO

Passat?

@Otherpeoplesteens another Logan vote. I have the petrol one. Fully specc'ed cost about £12k, and does 50+mpg.
