Reliable, luxury 4x4?

I need something that can tow up to 3500kg and deal with farm tracks and muddy fields.

I have a Vogue SE at the minute but I'm fed up with it I know how ungrateful that sounds but ugh
I've had nothing but problems with it since I got it and now I just want something reliable but preferably with a similar level of comfort as I do lot of long journeys and it makes a big difference

Ford Expedition EL, lots of space, great off road and huge towing capacity.

pizzabadger · 04/03/2019 22:53

They look nice but they don't seem to be available as a right hand drive and I don't really want a third row.

Volvo XC90. Utterly reliable and much nicer to drive around town. I'm on my second and would never go back to Range Rovers or Discos. I tend to keep mine for years, but I think there is now a hybrid version.

You will find servicing costs a pleasant surprise too.

pizzabadger · 04/03/2019 23:46

I think the xc90 looks gorgeous but I hadn't really considered it as a friend got a v90 a couple of years ago and he's had quite a few problems with it
I'll definitely give it a proper look though

I’m in the same boat at the moment except our faithful shogun is definitely on the Bute I’ve been looking at a Navarra as I loved my x trails they where comfy.

JamesBlonde1 · 04/03/2019 23:53

Porsche Macan or Cayenne?

Jsmith99 · 04/03/2019 23:57

Very few 4x4s can tow the full 3500kg, that is one of Land Rover’s main selling points. Shame they are so horrendously unreliable.

The Toyota Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi Shogun & VW Touareg are the obvious alternatives.

pizzabadger · 05/03/2019 00:09

I did look at the land cruiser as dh has just got a hilux which I love (but I don't want a pickup) but as far as I could see online it can only tow 3000kg

I hadn't considered a shogun as the hilux is replacing an l200 which I found horrendously uncomfortable and which wasn't particularly great off road but I'll maybe book a test drive and see if the shogun is any more comfortable.

The macan doesn't tow enough but the cayenne is definitely an option.

No problems at all with our Disco 5 but not as posh as a Vogue SE obvs. Tows 3500. Very capable off road

pizzabadger · 05/03/2019 00:24

I had a disco 1 for nearly a decade and it was a brilliant car but I really dislike like the new shape.

Hi have a look at the Ssangyong Rexton, it can tow 3.5 tonnes and recently won 4x4 of the year. I have a very old one of f these but would definitely buy the new fancy version if I had the money!

Bentley Bentayga will tow 3500kg. Rolls Royce Cullinan the same. Both reasonably priced
