Ford C Max- fitting 3 car seats in?

We are going to be down sizing from our Galaxy, need a more economical motor. Just wondering what it's like in the back...we have an Evolva 123, and Elite and an Eclipse. Will probably be moving the kids up a seat soon, so will have the Evolva 23, the Evolva 123, and an Elite. We have checked them individually on the Britax Fit finder, and they are ok, but I need to know about them collectively, iykwim? ...will it fit or would we be better going for a picasso?

not sure if it helps that much but i fit a britax highliner (seems identaicla to an evolva 2-3) a renaissance and a booster cushion in the back of my renault clio...

i maigine a c max must be quiet a bit bigger so should fit i guess

Ok thanks! Sounds like it will be possible...do you think the garage owner will think we are nuts if we take the 3 car seats down to try in the cars?

im sure they wont mind at all...
i would take them and say you need to try them before you can decide if you can even think about buying the car!

THanks again...I think a part of me is hoping there will be a problem fitting them in cos I love the Galaxy

Don't do it!

We downsized from a VW Sharan to a Vauxhall Zafira. I hate it

mankyscotslass · 07/07/2007 18:16

I really don't want to, but the Galaxy is bleeding us dry....if we had thought about it at the time we would have got a diesel, but now we cant afford to get another Galaxy diesel model, so smaller car needed. But I agree about the Zafira, my mum had one and I hated it, was a nightmare for car seats too....so I sympathise with you.

...And we are about to have number 4

FWIW, we hired a C-Max on holiday. Italian car seats certainly, but we did fit 3 in the back. If at all possible, it's easier to have seats with a harness for as long as possible. Then you don't need to access buckles every time you fasten them in and out!

mankyscotslass · 10/07/2007 12:13

Well we tried the seat in today, and no way do they fit. Would have to put eldest Ds (5) in a booster cushion, with a seat belt adjuster, not a high back booster, and put him in the middle for it to work. I am not sure how I feel about that as he is a slight 5year old and is under the 50th for height/weight....Dh not convinced its a problem though...am i being over protective?

Just an update, we called Britax to see what they would recommend and they were not that helpful....told us just to try different seats and would not recommend any at all. So we are going to see if we can squeeze a Hi-liner in the middle, as we have decided that neither of us are comfortable with putting the eldest in a booster cushion just yet.....any one else have any car seat suggestions.....we really don't fancythe graco ones. tia

we have a c-max and squeeze in 2 Britax Kids (think they are called that - the high back boosters) and a normal booster seat in the middle (so 3 across the back).

mankyscotslass · 13/07/2007 10:47

Thanks FS, we are going to take the car for a test drive to halfords on saturday mornnig and see what happens....really want the eldest still in a high back booster, and the other two are only 3 1/2 and 21 mths so proper seats at the mo.....god i wish we didnt need to get rid of this car....

we did a similar downsize (from a galaxy/alhambra) - don't have 3 children though (but am often carting another one around)

tbh, with 2 'proper' car seats on the outside, it's not easy fitting another one in the middle.

mankyscotslass · 13/07/2007 11:18

FS, I reckon we are just not meant to have more than 2 children in a normal family car at any time! GRR.

We have a c-max (have owned 2 now) and fit 2 britax hi-liners on the outer seats and an eclipse si on the middle seat. It is quite easy to fasten the booster seats due to the sculpted base on the eclipse but the car seats cannot go in any other order. My children are 6.5, nearly 5 and 2.

CatBert · 13/07/2007 11:34

I thought the C-Max looked like 2 1/2 seats in the back, although three proper seatbelts. I took a look at the S-Max on Sat, and it's lovely! It is their version of a small MPV, and comes in a variety of models, but still has SEVEN seats 3 full sized ones in the middle and 2 being those funky pull out of the floor ones, like the zafira. Each one can have a car seat fitted.

Although they are very new, and so to get a good deal on a second hand one you probably want to wait another year... Unless you want to go new of course.

Ta, but we have one...see op... Bagpuss, thanks we are going to see about getting a hi-liner for the eldest, but dd at 3 1/2 i think is under the weight limit still for it, so kind of stuck!
Catbert, think we may well have to wait a year, can't afford new until Dh's work follow though on the promise of a new contract and car allowance...been ok'd by HR director but with the Chief Exec to ok for months.....
Thanks everyone!

Well we tried again, this time with a HiLiner, an Evolva 123 and the Eclipse, and it fitted. JUST. So we are probably going with thatm and in another 18mth time move dd into another Hi liner and have the lo in the Evolva. Thanks for all your input!
