Is 'I'm not a plastic bag' uber chic or uber hyped?

I have (legitimately!) been offered one of these Anya Hindmarch bags with a book (all comes as a set) for £21. Don't know if the hype has now passed and can't be bothered or whether I will have fallen off the fashion train if I don't get it! Any advice fashionistas?!

They're still selling for £70 on ebay. Not that that answers the question.

hippopowell · 05/07/2007 14:54

Yet another example of the marketing machine convincing us to buy something we don't need. Any old fabric bag will do the job of holding items. Depends if you want the job to be letting every other person who has fallen for the hype to be impressed?

Mine is still in the boot of the car BNWT.

aDad · 05/07/2007 14:59

accept it, sell it, buy yourself something else.

We did. three times.

bakedpotato · 05/07/2007 15:00

I'd be a bit embarrassed to be seen out with one

Flogging it on ebay seems to be in the general spirit of the thing

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2007 15:00

No No what you really want is one of these.

Look at all the space in that. You could fit bloody bucket loads of organic veg with the mud still on in there. I tell you I'm on the verge of getting one, I'm teetering on the very edge of the new must have shopping accessory.

SweetyDarling · 05/07/2007 15:05

Depends if you have one or not!

I have a shopping trolley also ll
(mine is from Habitat, it folds up small so you can carry it around with a handy handle until you need it)
buy one slubber

3babesfull · 05/07/2007 16:59

Thanks for the advice. Can't be bothered to buy and sell - not really an ebay seller (buying on the other hand...!) I have got lots of cloth and canvas bags that I use. I also have a shopping trolley as I am a teacher and carry around loads of stuff. Everyone laughs at me - even the parents but I don't care, I feel like a trolley dolly! Mine is beige and black, almost cool (except that I bought it at the Co-op!)

Littlelapin, there is a similar bag on ebay made by a company in Bristol - environmental and more local than US!

Surely you need one of these trolleys

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2007 18:46

lol, love those funky shopping trolleys. Yes as per usual I am no where near to being teetering on the edge of a new fashion trend. More like I am sitting about 500m away from the edge in a comfy Laura Ashley sofa, looking at the edge through my mothers bird watching binoculars.

wtf am I wittering on about. dear oh dear.

Lapin, have you got a 'I'm not a fashion victim' shopping trolley there. Now that would be 'of the moment' and yet also ironic. I would love to be both things. People would at me all the way down the Chester Rows.

Hype

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2007 18:58

Ah, well I have a fairly large selection of aprons already thank you .

If you do decide to go into a shopping trolley range do let me know

3babesfull · 05/07/2007 19:07

O Sorry Lapin! Don't want to sound really dim, but does that mean you are in America or is just your shop?! Feel slightly foolish asking!

3babesfull: definitely still chic - although the checkout lady at sainsburys offered to sell me one today that she had won in the staff raffle which did take the edge off it a little!!

I have 4 AHs and no plastic bag one (but tempted by sainsburys lady offer!!), so can confidently say, use it until autumn then keep for 5 years then it can re-surface as 'retro'.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/07/2007 12:06

I keep being tempted by the 'I'm not a smug twat' bags at our local market ... is that the same?
