I'm looking for a dolls house for a 2 1/2 year old, I dont want a plasticy one and I would like her to be able to play with it now under supervision and for it to last a few years, so not to babyish. Does anybody have any recommendations of one and if so where did you get it from.

The ELC Georgian one is lovely dd had it for her 3rd Christmas and loved it.

dd was given the Plan Victorian dolls hous for her 2nd Xmas andloves it. We keep it on the landing and she plays with it every day. This one has an attic and basement that you can buy as add ons as she grows up. It is quite sturdy and looks lovely.

I've just bought the ELC Georgian dolls house for my 2 1/2 year old for christmas. It is gorgeous, and we've bought all the rooms to go in too. ELC are in the process of changing the room sets though and we preferred some of the older (uncoloured) sets, so we got these from the website. However, Toys R Us do something similar and much cheaper (the room sets in Toys R Us are half the price of ELC, so we bought a couple of these, not as nice though, so decided to mix and match a bit).

Having said that, of course I can't recommend it on the basis of it being played with as haven't given it to her yet! We bought it as she has been absolutely entranced by dolls houses at other people's houses and has just recently really started imaginative play with her toys - they talk to each other (she puts on gruff voices for some of them) and put each other into anything resembling a car or house, so am assuming she will really enjoy it.

Spoke to a lady in a traditional toy shop last week and she said that the plan ones are better made and mow plan and its sister company have split they are lowering the prices so can compete with the ELC ones which IHO were not as well made as the plan ones!!

(DD has a plan one we got her last christmas - I thnik she has played with it a grand total of twice and the lady in the shop said they start playing with it at around 5!!)

D&A toys have a lovely wooden one for £30 from £150 on their website.

DD has a pintoys dolls house (similar to plan). MUCH better made than the ELC versions IMHO and has been worth every penny. If you check some of the onlne toy sites they have frequent offers.

DD was given hers at about your DD's age and I would say it gets played with every day (it's a currently a hotel for her Care bears who are on their hols!).
