i know someone who has karndean and amtico and she is not impressed with it at all as it has scratched and she paid a lot of money for it.

marmoleum is cheaper and natural so we wanted that over vinyl anyway. but does it scratch and mark easily?

I have karndean - must rush and check for scratches! Have been happy with it till now. Must say though, that salesman was p'd off with me when I laughed in his face at his assertion that karndean needs cleaning with manufacturer's own detergent - at £25 per bottle. Yeah right. I clean it with water.

MARMOLEUM IS FAB PRODUCT BUT MUST BE LAID CORRECTLY AND FLOOR VERY EVEN, CAN'T LAY OVER VINYL AS IT MUST BE FULLY STUCK TO FLOOR AND NOT JUST ROUND EDGES OR LOOSE LAID, NOT EASY TO CHANGE, IS PRETTY TOUGH STUFF SO SHOULDN'T SCRATCH EASILY, YOU ALSO SHOULDN'T USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS OR BLEACH. WORKED IN FLOORING SO KNOW A WEE BIT ABOUT IT, JUST ASK IF YOU WANT ANY MORE ADVICE, HAPPY TO HELP IF I CAN

We have it in the bathroom, it has been down 4 yrs now and still looks lovely. I clean it with very weak flash once in a while but usually just water. It does have some tiny scratches on it but not really noticable. We had an inlaid border put in in a contrasting colour to follow the curve of the bath. I wouldn't wear stilletoes on it though just incase.

We have it in our loo and bathroom (and previous bathroom) and I love it.
Warm underfoot, kind to LOs who fall over and easy to clean plus eco friendly.
Only thing I woudl say is avoid either very plain light or dark colours as these show the sirt. The mottled mid colours are the most practical in afamily home.

Love it. Would do the whole house if I could persuade dh. As others say, warm to touch, natural product which biodegrades at the end of its usage, pretty colours (we have a beautiful sea-green with blue flecks in our bathroom).

I want it in my nursery - but I'm a bit worried about how well it wears (with heavy usage)

But it is lovely & eco & natural & warm & I want some

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 19:47

I used to have it cut in a fancy victorian tile pattern rather than the roll. I loved it.

ahundredtimes · 09/07/2007 19:48

Is it like a rubber flooring? I have just got rubber floors in the bathrooms and I'm MAD about it. Get that.

Pannacotta · 09/07/2007 19:52

Katymac it should be fine, it has been used in contract settings such as kids wards on hospitals and GP suugeries. So long as you choose a good colour with mottling it will be suitable.
Is good for kids with asthma apparently (natural products).

Our student union building had linoleum all over and that saw a lot of alarming action

Katymac · 09/07/2007 21:35

That is good news

Kewcumber · 10/07/2007 11:15

Do tell, Marina...
