Need ideas for presents for DS1 who will be 4 in a few weeks. He has not yet discovered Power Rangers/Dr Who/Spiderman/superhero stuff although I expect that will come this year? Best to wait for him to start asking for that kind of stuff I presume

play mobile mine love it

WestCountryLass · 28/06/2007 22:49

Yes, deffo don't go there until you are made to! My 5 year old is mad about Power Rangers, Doctor Who etc and it does my head in! This is DHs fault, of course as he likes sci fi stuff....

Playmobil or if he likes trains then maybe the Thomas Hornby stuff or maybe something like a bike or scooter?

AllBuggiedOut · 28/06/2007 22:50

Am wondering about a bike, but he's still happy on his likeabike. Playmobil good - any specific suggestions? He's got a fab dinosaurs in the ice set already.

My DS1 (3.5) was given walkietalkies and he ASBSOLUTELY loves them - he finds it fascinating that he can talk to his dad in the garden when daddy is indoors etc etc.

DS1's godfather bought him a BugSet from ELC - it consists of binoculars, magnifying glass, some sort of bug hoover (bug friendly of course) to suck up any type of insect, a clear box to put the bugs in whilst examining them etc. He also really loves that and puts it in a rucksack and pretends he is Diego (you know, Dora's cousin!).

tassis · 28/06/2007 23:00

Things that were hits at ds' 4th include bike, swingball, football goals, bubble machine, cars from disney cars film

What about add on bits for duplo/wooden railway if he's into those?

A foldy up scooter is on my wish list for ds!

pammo · 28/06/2007 23:01

My DS will be 4 in Oct and he's requested a bike. We're waiting until Sept before we order an Isla bike (see how much he grows as to whether he needs a 14" or 16" CNOC). If that is too pricey, how about a large set of Creatiles?

DrippingLizzie · 28/06/2007 23:02

Basketball set? Just bought my 4yo a Little Tikes b'ball set and he LOVES it.

tassis · 28/06/2007 23:03

what do you can those magnetic construction toys? they look good

or kid k/nex is fun

ghosty · 28/06/2007 23:04

DS got his first proper bike at 4. A 16" one .... with stabilisers that were off by the time he was 4.5

cece · 28/06/2007 23:04

I was about to say the dreaded Power Rangers but wouldn't want to make you suffer like I do.... Can anyone understand one word they say or a plot from one of their programmes? Coz I can't

brimfull · 28/06/2007 23:05

Anything from "Cars" ds drools over the big Lightening Mcqueen in our local toy shop.

Any Thomas train stuff.Brio track things.

Big plastic dinosaurs.

Swords and shields.

Dressing up stuff.

diggers and tractors always popular.

AllBuggiedOut · 28/06/2007 23:08

He hasn't seen Cars - would he like it? He's scared of most things (including Lazy Town and Numberjacks on a bad day...)

Off to see what Creatiles and Isla bikes are...

Am trying to steer him away from train stuff - he says trains are his favourite toys but is playing with them less and less.

OMG watched Numberjacks with DS1 the other day - The Numbertaker is a V. V. V. scary kids character IMO!!!!

brimfull · 28/06/2007 23:09

Get him Cars dvd,My son is a woos and he loves it.

youpeskykids · 28/06/2007 23:10

I find books are always a present my DS1 never tires of.

AllBuggiedOut · 28/06/2007 23:12

Ooh, am very excited by Isla bikes - anyone got one? I was hesitating to move to a metal one because they are so sodding heavy compared to the glorious likeabike, but the DS is keen on having pedals...

Is kids knex good?

ChasingSquirrels · 28/06/2007 23:49
  • kids k'nex is fun, as is k'nex - which he will grow into
- proper lego good at 4yo (as long as no small sibilings around to eat it) - mecanno, magnetics etc - ds got some hama beads for his 4th and loved them, massive hit here - top trump cards have been a big hit - hot wheels type little car stuff - castle and play figures - this is what ds had for his 4th from us, he pined for it for weeks, we brought it cos it was on offer and it sat in the spare room for 2 months with him going in and stroking the box lovingly every day and asking when it would be his birthday - he NEVER plays with the bloody thing.
youpeskykids · 28/06/2007 23:55

Another idea - my DS loves his pop up tent - supposed to be for the beach, but he loves having it in his bedroom and has even slept in it one night! Thinks it's a real adventure.

DS2 is 4 and loves:
Playmobil (pirate ship, treasure chest, castle, niths)
Knight figures by Papo
dressing up (as a knight)
Books (about knights or pirtaes - spotting a theme here?)

Also as it's a summer b/day how about an outdoor thing - swingball, football net (we have a great one that's metal) badminton set etc?

Clary · 29/06/2007 00:34

sorry that "niths" should read knights not sure what happened there

Mine who also turns 4 next week will be getting a scooter - he's a whizz on his big brother's already and asking for books and anything pirate (not Pirate of Carribean) related and anything else for rollercoasters (can't you tell we're just back from Florida .
