Ignorant newbie question alert! Have got a moses basket, but don't know whether to buy a stand or not. Some people say you can put them on a chest of drawers instead - but why can't you just put them on the floor??

i wouldnt put them on a chest of drawers!

nothing wrong with putting it on the floor though, or even in the cot i fyou have one

put 'em on the floor

I borrowed a stand for my second child because with my first I used to worry that my duvet would fall off and suffocate her
However I had overlooked the fact that with your second child you are sane, so I never used it

we only ever had it on the stand at night, was on the floor the rest of the time!

DeviousDaffodil · 25/06/2007 13:41

You might trip over it if it is on the floor?

I put ours on a blanket box. Very stable - not unlike a chest of drawers. Some of the stands i've seen look quite flimsy to me.

We had ours on a blanket box in the bedroom and used the carrycot on the pram wheels downstairs.

I don't feel right putting a baby on the floor, I always feel something (or somebody ) will fall in on top of it

witchandchips · 25/06/2007 13:55

think you only need a stand if you have pets otherwise they can go on the floor

I had a stand with my moses basket but only used it in the bedroom. It meant the moses basket was the same height as our bed, so could just reach out and pick up screechy baby while in I was in bed (rather than getting out of bed to pick her up from the floor).... but then again maybe I'm just lazy! Not a necessary item imo, just convenient.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll start with it on the floor and see how I get on. No room for it right next to my bed, so I'd have to get up to feed anyway, and no pets, big or small.

You could put it inside the fullsize cot, no chance of falling over and can't get tipped over.
