Mattress minefield

Hi, desperately searching for a mattress. My current one is causing horrible low back pain (it was very cheap). I think I need medium/firm memory foam. Problem is my budget is low. There are cheap ones out there but they are probably rubbish. Does anyone have any recommendations for one that's good for lower back pain but doesn't break the bank. I need a king size. Thank you

A Casper mattress is fairly cheap (by mattress standards) and we have one. I absolutely love it. Our two mattresses before used to give me horrendous back pain and this one doesn't at all.
You can trial it for 90 days and send it back if you don't like it

Thank you for that recommendation Tahiti. I'm glad it helped your back. I'm off to Google that one now.

If you can, go to ikea and lie on them, they are really well priced and very comfy

OldSpeclkledHen · 09/12/2018 07:57

Ikea. I love my Ikea mattress, it's firm with memory form topper built in.

I don't want to get out of bed in the morning 🙄

We bit the bullet and bought a tempur one and paid over 24 months. A good nights sleep is priceless

readyfreddie · 09/12/2018 08:38

I am drawn to IKEA simply because of price. We don't have an IKEA near us but could get delivery. Which one do you have?

Would love a tempur or casper but hoping I could get a good one for a bit less. Christmas has been more expensive than I'd hoped

I heard the IKEA ones were good, so got one of them. Can't remember the name, but it is the priciest one. It absolutely killed my back - too hard. Had to get rid after 18 months for the Casper.

We had a hyllestad in our family home before we split a few months ago, it was amazing and I was a bit gutted I didn't have the budget for one when I moved the kids out, went for a firm hovag as it was a bit less and it's even better! It's got a memory foam top on it and now I never want to get out of bed

greyspottedgoose · 09/12/2018 08:47

If you order a hovag don't be disappointed when it arrives rolled up and looks paper thin 😂 it magically puffs up

readyfreddie · 09/12/2018 09:01

Tahiti that's what I'm worried about. The only reason for this purchase is to help my back. Maybe I'll have to up the budget. I'd hate to get one that makes my back worseShock

Without knowing your budget it’s difficult to advise. Our double from Bensons for Beds was just under £1000 and has around 2600 springs. It’s a 3 rating for soft/firmness, which is the middle rating. DH has a bad back and he says it’s perfect for him. Far better than the firm memory foam one that we previously had which we both despised.

OldSpeclkledHen · 09/12/2018 18:05

@readyfreddie I think most places these days offer a 90 day sleep trial if that helps? (I know Ikea do!) x

QueenOfIce · 11/12/2018 12:55

We have a Tempur cloud which is amazing. Bought the Ikea memory foam for spare room, we decided to try it ourselves for a few nights but for me it's just too firm.

Dsd has a Simba arriving in a few days but their 1 year reviews aren't good and Simba won't replace or refund so I think we'll be cancelling our order or returning which is a shame because it was very comfortable when tried in store.

Next try for us will be the Casper I think.
