Best 2 in one - ie car seat that fits into pram frame

Have friend (relax M Towers am not pregnant) due early sept who is buying the car seat and wants one that fits into the pram so she can sensibly transport sleeping baby from car to pushchair. She's understandably not keen on spending £700 on bugaboo works. What are the best alternatives?

Top priority is a good safe carseat that fits her car properly, rest depends on what she wants from her pram.

Three extremes of the spectrum:
Maclaren XLR + Recaro Young Profi Plus - lightweight urban umbrella stroller
Silver Cross Classic Freeway + Ventura - old-school bouncy pram
Jane Slalom + Rebel or Matrix - easy-to-push three wheeler good for off-roading.

and of course she knows that leaving even a sleeping bab in a carseat for long periods is a bad idea, doesn't she?

We couldn't find a combo that worked from both ends for us so have a MaxiCosi on a click-in base for the car and a completely seperate pram/pushchair.

graco car seats fit onto loads of chassis- my fav combo atm is:
Graco autobaby car seat and base (doesn't break the bank!
WITH
Hauck/I'coo/Jeep Infinity pram (seriously doesn't break the bank) and has the look of a bugaboo

This combo makes a truely universal system- car seat on chassis, lovely pram and the in car base- whole package can be got from as little as £220 (from moi!!!)BARGAIN!!

oh and justine tut tut- its not a 2in1- its a travel system!

teafortwoandtwofortea · 21/06/2007 10:13

In terms of the actual car seat and confort for the baby I think the chassis that go with the creatis are a good option - the seat is a little flatter and more padded than others I've seen.

The popular one is the loola but there is a three wheeler version that fits called the high trek (both bebe confort and available from ebay for cheapness )

Thanks v much - what's a 2-in-1 then?
any other models she should look at?

We've got a Silver Cross linear chassis with sleepover top (they also do classic chassis and a freeway top) and a Ventura car seat. The sleepover changes into a pushchair top from a carrycot, and the ventura clips onto the chassis. Big drawback is that when using it as a pram/ pushchair it doesn't fold down without taking off the seat (so no good for public transport), plus the wheels are too big to fit in the boot of my smart forfour. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it.

evenhope · 21/06/2007 11:02

oh and the ventura comes with a hood and a cosytoes included- useful for a winter baby.

burstingbug · 21/06/2007 11:03

isn't 2 in 1 a shampoo & conditioner in 1 bottle

MrsBadger · 21/06/2007 11:07

a 2-in-1 is a lie-flat pram that changes into a puschair later - like the Silver Cross Sleepover or the Freeway.

JustineMumsnet · 21/06/2007 11:25

God I should know that [shame].

We used Britax - rockatot car seat, fits onto Classic Chassis (with an extra thing you attach on). Also carrycot becomes pram, and there is a pushchair bit as well. Chassis is bigger than some, but gives a nice smooth ride, and feels like a 'proper' pram when it's got the carrycot on it.

any thoughts on cossato mobi cossato mobi ?

looks interesting - bit of a Quinny Buzz ripoff but without the neat folding mechanism.
very good it has a carrycot though

MrsBadger · 21/06/2007 12:05

also reversable seat v good

MelissaM · 21/06/2007 12:09

The cossatto one looks nice, but the frame will take up a lot of room in your friends car. We've bought the mamas&papas pliko travel pack . The pram top / carry cot can be used for occasional overnight sleeping too as it has fold out legs, and air vents. The frame is umbrella fold so takes up less room in the car.

nearlythere · 21/06/2007 12:25

the mobi seems really nice- but it has only just come out so we've not seen any ironing out of problems- could be like the icandy cherry which seems t be having some trouble atm! depends when she's gonna get it- if she diesn't need to buy it for a few months then hold fire until we get some real life reviews!
