Am I the only person who doesn't find a "here comes trouble" bib funny?

Rough count at mum and toddler group (only 8 babies).

1 "here comes trouble" bib
1 "I'm only naughty when I'm awake" dress
1 "Little monster T shirt" worn with "trouble" trousers.

Initially I kept quiet, I'm not that keen on putting negative statements on preschoolers but they could have been presents and goodness knows we are all saving money. Also it's not my business. I bought some underpant packs that have 1 pair that say "street fighter" - (size 2-4 I mean honestly), but they can't be seen and they were the equivalent of 10p each.

But then they all compared their children's clothes and I discovered the mums find the things hilarious and it turns out they had all purchased them themselves(albeit on sale).

I asked if they would like it if someone put a negative stereotype on them; say "Thunderthighs" maybe, for a woman trying to lose her baby weight, or "4 eyes" for a woman who wears glasses etc. Apparently it's not the same.

How on earth can you expect a child to act like an angel when wearing a little monster T shirt.

i have a t-shirt which says 'girls are evil' a friend of mine makes them for clubbing.

lou33 · 31/08/2004 18:01

I wouldn't put my kids in a "my mum is a fox" t shirt though, for fear of someone looking at them , looking at me, then bursting out laughing!

wordgirl · 31/08/2004 18:31

I have one that says 'Housework is evil. It must be stopped' It's the only slogan t-shirt I will ever have (or need)!

lou33 · 31/08/2004 18:46

I could wear that one wordgirl.

Lisa78 · 31/08/2004 19:53

Sorry, I like all of them - though I wouldn't wear one! DS2 has one that says "I didn't do it" and one that says "Warning - tantrum alert" and I think they are funny! He also has one that says "I love Mummy" on the front and "Mummy loves me" on the back!

Saw one the other day, for a man

"tryandreadwhat
thissayswhilst
Icheckoutyourtits"

Which made me laugh

joanneg · 31/08/2004 20:01

Oh no I am really embarrased now as ds has loads of these t-shirts and I thought they were funny and cute! Now when I am out and he is wearing them I am going to be paranoid! And I am the queen of christmas tack, ds even had reindeer antlers last year!

I am going to go away now and hide my face in shame

lou33 · 31/08/2004 21:05

I did dress ds2 up as a pumpkin once for Halloween.

Lisa78 · 31/08/2004 21:12

has he ever forgiven you Lou?

lou33 · 31/08/2004 21:28

I said ds not dh, ds will forgive me anything

He looked great though, with an added moustache as a final twist, a la addams family.

alexsmum · 02/09/2004 12:25

joanneg, glad I'm not the only one who love's the christmas stuff.I don't believe anyone can see a baby in a santa suit and think " how tacky"..it is just SSOOO cute!!!

allatsea · 02/09/2004 12:41

hate them all - maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to see a child in a little monster t-shirt and think that s/he's quite nice really, and to see a Mummy's little angel t-shirt without wanting to hurl! Worst one ever - about the time that the Soham girls went missing I saw a t-shirt for girls saying 'I want to walk up and down and for everyone to notice me'. Yuck

Mirage · 02/09/2004 20:25

Lou33,we dressed DD up as a pumpkin too.She was only 3 months old at the time.

I do hate those little monster/trouble type bibs & t-shirts though.

prufrock · 02/09/2004 20:41

Some are terrible, some are nice. I have to admit to dd having a reindeer outfit, but it was because she was a reindeer in the "school play" And dd/ds had the "I'm the big sister/I'm the little brother" t-shirt and babygro from BM. DD also has the "I'm off to Grandma's" from her Grandma of course. And I do love the "why am I going to bed when it's my mummy who's tired" pyjamas from BM.

acnebride · 02/09/2004 21:33

well, this has opened my mind and relaxed my opinions i think! used to dislike the 'here comes trouble' stuff but, o bea - i really loved the 'it started with a kiss' tshirt from blooming marv! didn't buy it tho, too expensive.

have avoided slogan t shirts since making one of my own at college with a van morrison lyric on it and getting the sh*t remorselessly taken out of me, quite rightly i would now say...

lou33 · 02/09/2004 21:51

Mirage, we just happened to have a bright orange all in one snow suit, so we popped hinm in that, put the hood up, drew on a moustache, voila! Impossible to resist he was, and v pleased with himself. The snowsuit puffed out so he did actually look round like a pumpkin, because it was too big for him! My 2 girls were witches, complete with evil faces, and ds1 was a dead wizard, again with matching make up. Takes an hour to get them all done, so I try and get out of it!

Morgan · 02/09/2004 22:02

I don't like them - it's just reinforcing the stereotypes of toddlers if you ask me but i did buy a "Captain Chaos" t-shirt for my ds as i thought that was very appropriate. Quite glad some other people think the same as i thought it must just be me and they are everywhere now!

Heathcliffscathy · 02/09/2004 22:10

hate them...except...saw one once that said mothersucker. which i thought was quite funny
