3 door cars - are they a pita?

I'm always put off as the doors seem bigger and I think I'd never get out of it in a parking space.

they are a pita if you regularly travel with passengers in the back

southeastastra · 18/06/2007 18:23

my mil fell out of my three door car getting out once. it wasn't funny at all

Whoooosh · 18/06/2007 18:24

They are a complete PITA if you have kids or as NDP says-regular backseat passengers.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/06/2007 18:25

I guess I could put dd in the passenger seat

Or is that not very safe - she's 6?

I have a Ford Ka and love it. So much better for getting children in and out because you can stnd in the back footwell and face the car seat rather than doing that lift-twist-cripple manoevre.

Always had one before and after two children. I think they're fine.

i have a 3 door. works well. same as whoever said earlier, you can step right in to fasten children in.

Hulababy · 18/06/2007 18:38

One of our cars is a 3 door, and have had 3 doors in past, whilst we have had DD.

For me it is actually quite good. I find it easily with a 3 door to sort car seats as I am short enough to stand in the footwell facing the seat. With a 5 door it is harder for me as I am not quite tall enough to reach over to fasten them.

Thats a good point - am only 5ft2" and do find it a struggle to stretch.

I have a 3 door clio

2 car seats permanatly installed in the back (and 2 children in them daily!)
I can even get 3 car seats and kids in the back as well

For me its not a problem... there are no doors for them to open (ok there would be child lock) and no back windows to argue about being open or closed or to thro things out of on a hot summer days!

Whilst i swore i would never get a 3 door car as i always have babies and toddlers in tow, i have had this car 3 years and it really has NOT been as bad as i had previosuly imagined it might have been!

Also im small (5"2) and i find strapping in easier than in a 5 door car as i can stand in the foot well!

I have nissan micra and I totally agree with bobsmum - standing in the footwell is the way to go - and there's loads of headroom. I am 5'9" and find getting dd into her carseat a doddle. Also, I am safe in the knowledge that she cannot try to get out. Yes, I know there are child safety locks, but I never really trusted them - drove around cringing, trying to ignore ds playing with the door handle, praying it wouldn't open. It never did, but I'm much more relaxed with the 3 door.
