Can anyone recommend a Smoke Alarm that isn't too distressing?!

Now I know by their nature they are supposed to be LOUD and DISTRESSING but I have had to get rid of several because they REALLY upset dd1 (4 years old and rather Sensitive) when they went off. I mean she was hysterical and would be upset for the day. And then I would burn the toast the next morning and it would start again.

I need one that WORKS but is't TOO SENSITIVE or go off on a 'test cycle' when you switch the light on and off (I HATE those ones).

We got our smoke alarms free from the fire brigade. Might be worth ringing your local fire station and requesting a safety check, these are free.

They will if asked fit smoke alarms for you and I'm sure would be able to advise you re noisy ones.

Have you maybe positioned your one too near the kitchen?
