Whats the difference between Amtico and Marmoleum and which would you recommend?

I am in Enid's Flooring World at the moment. Our architect has recommended marmoleum flooring for kitchen and bathroom - I have read on mumsnet that people wouldn't recommend Amtico - are they one and the same?

No, don't think they are the same.Don't know much about this but I do know that moamoleum is comprised of all natural products - good for asthma sufferers and suchlike.
We have a marmoleum floor in our kitchen and it's fab. Quite warm underfoot and they can cut designs into it. We went for tiles as our room is an awkward shape so there was less waste than with a roll. Marmoleum is made by Forbo Nairn so maybe you could google and do a comparison?

Do you have to have a 'design'? On the website it looks rather overstyled with patterns cut into it everywhere - I'd rather just get a tile pattern. Don't suppose you can remember how much a metre it was can you???

Don't know the difference but know that lyndap's looks lovely and stylish! Nice and warm underfoot even on a freezing December evening when it was snowing outside!

Enid, I have Marmoleum in the bathroom. Cost about £25 per metre, that was 3 years ago.

The otherone to consider, is carendean. Which I have in the kitchen and is also really warm underfoot, and looks fab

Isn't Marmoleum the trade name for linoleum? It's back in fashion, I hear!

marmoleum is all natural as said earlier and is cheaper I think than amtico which starts at around £75 per metre. With amtico the colour goes all the way throught he product so scuffs and scratches dont show and the. Amtico comes in huge colour range and also can have funky designs patterns and photos etc on it. Marmoleum comes in a smaller range of colours and I think is more rubbery looking - used in a lot of commercial floors in the 70s!

My sil has Amtico, and she lives in fear of anyone scratching it - it cost so much, and to be frank it doesn't look like it. Maybe it's because she has 4 different designs in 4 different rooms, and to my (untrained) eye, it looks too busy by far.

We have marmoleum in our dining room and play room - but it is very cold underfoot because it is laid on concrete - so I think the warmth may be due to whats underneath. Think the domestic version tends to be tiles (option of having boarders etc) and the 'industrial' version is sheets - which can be cut in patterns if you want. It seems to wear OK. It is 100% natural and has antiseptic properties I think (which is why it is used in hospitals I think) In our new kitchen / utility we have gone for dalsouple rubber which I think is better (and comes in cooler colours!)
