Reclining carseat for 4 yr old? Britax evolva??

Does such a thing exist?

DD currently has a maxi-cosi rodi car seat. DS is in a maxi-cosi priori XP.

We are going to be driving overnight to and from France. About 11 hours in total. Daytime journey would be purgatory. Want dd to be extra comfortable, but her car seat doesn't recline to the same extent as ds's, probably because ds's has an integral base and the seat can slide up and down the base whereas dd's sits directly on the car seat.

Anyway - was wondering whether anyone had any recommendations for making dd more comfortable. Am happy to buy a new car seat if necessary.

Thanks

Pooka, can you point me to the thread in question? I'm looking for info about carseats. Thanks!

which video about Evolva

BTW, I don't have a Evolva but its brother the Hi Liner. Although it is advertised as reclining is not really so, it reclines the back adjusts to make it fit against the back of the seat in the car, not to make it more comfortable to sleep in. I'm not sure if it's the same for the Evolvas but worth checking.

Another thing... try to get a seat with an integrated seatbelt, we have found that when we break when DS is sleeping in it, the car seat belt is not the best thing to keep him in his place (we have to half wake him up to tell him to sit straight again)

Thanks Isabel, that was a bit of an eye-opener! Britax it is then.

hi, i'm soon to travel by car to briancon (1000km from calais!) with ds1 just turned three and ds2 4mnths......!

we purchased a britax evolva 123 (i guess thats for groups 1-3) and i think our on finds it quite comfy. it doesn't recline as such but has a levered but you flip under the seat...you have to take seat out to do this. we have just purchased a britax first class for baby cause hes massive...20lbs and i cant squeeze him in the primo viaggio any more...oh yes have invested in in car dvd thing and recording in the night garden on to dvd like mad!! good luck with your trip!

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 14/06/2007 23:48

Goodmorningday, does the evolve 123 has integrated seatbelt, or you use the one of the car?

LIZS · 15/06/2007 09:30

We have an Evolva 123 Ultra. The recline is pretty marginal(2 positions, upright or slightly laid back) tbh and it depends on what stage you are using the seat and your car as to which position is a better fit. btw the one in the video is the Evolva 23 Isofit and differs to the 123 which inlcudes a 5 point harness and is sutibale form 9kgs but is restrained by the adult belt not Isofix.

really ?! dd is almost 6 and fine in hers (still with the harness !)

pooka · 15/06/2007 13:56

Thanks all. Still not sure what to do really. I may see whether, since she is still quite slight, she will fit in the maxi-cosi that ds has, in which case she could have a more reclined ride.

Sorry - am terrible at links, but if you go to search messages and type in "reclining car seat" there's a bit of a discussion, the thrust of which is that there is no such thing.

I truly embrace the idea of children being adequately restrained in cars and would never not have dd and ds in a car seat. But can't help thinking wistfully of our lovely journeys to Cornwall overnight as children, when my parents would flip the seats down, replacw with matresses and duvets and we'd sleep the whole way in comfort. Not safety though, and that's the whole point.
