White you could get a good New Zealand Sauvignon and Red I'd probably look at a Barolo or Pinot Noir.

TranquilaManana · 14/06/2007 16:22

pape. (is how pappe is spelt)

blanc de blanc champagne. (is to do with the grape variety used to make it. champagne is usually a mix of chardonnay and pinot noir grapes (i think), but blanc de blanc champagne made from just the chardonnay ones. is much nicer than even the expensive brands. imo. (and waitrose and others do their own bottles of the stuff i think)
(just to clarify, thats not the name of the wine, but the variety. you have to read the bottles to find one.)

Sunshinemummy · 14/06/2007 16:22

There's also a website called everywines.co.uk

TranquilaManana · 14/06/2007 16:23

I wouldn't necessarily bother spending that much on a single bottle (unless it was eiswein). For a great red try 'The Fergus' - now available in Tesco for £10, but we originally tried it in a Conran restaurant in Sweden where it cost £70. If you really want to pay more then I'd second the amarone suggestion.

brimfull · 14/06/2007 18:09

thank you for all your suggestions
dh also suggested a barolo

no oddbins around here so will have a look in waitrose

thanks
