Fiat 500

Hey, I'm so so giddy to be having a baby, only problem being I have a very un-childfriendly car in the Fiat 500, I've done tons of research and it seems only the Bugaboo Bee pram and Maxi Cosi car seat are able to fit in my beloved car (hes called Lou Lou and I can't bare to part with him). Does anyone else have a 500 or have either of these baby products, do they fit, are they comfortable, are there any other products I don't know about? Confused

Are you able to change your car, the fiat 500 is not a safe car for children, there are plenty of cars out there that score higher or the safety ratings, usually bigger cars but not always. www.euroncap.com/en/results/FIAT/500/26307

Hi, I'm aware of the cars faults but unfortunately don't have the funds to exchange it, I've taken it to a few garages for a quote but the amount they are offering me (4 separate garages) doesn't leave me with enough to purchase anything else that is in a decent condition or of a decent age. I won't be using my car very often as all family is very close and my partner has a family friendly Ford so he will do the majority of driving, it'll just be the odd trip to the supermarket or the park.

Why would you not just sell it privately and buy something else privately if money’s tight?

Buggerbrexit · 07/10/2018 15:51

Only on mumsnet are you told to sell your car rather than having the question answered Hmm

I bought Monte from someone who had managed a child in it until the point they expanded to two kids - I think they pretty much just left half the back seat down to give them more space for the buggy etc. From what I see, they are not ideal for kids because of the stretch to get car seats in the back ( we have only had to do it once for friends) but I am sure you will manage.

Monte is my 500 by the way!

bigbluebus · 07/10/2018 16:15

Any reason why you can't swap cars with your partner?

I had a 500 with my newborn and used a Jane I-Anchor car seat and lifted him in and out through the lot as it was much easier. The following pushchairs also fitted -

Bugaboo Cameleon with the rear wheels popped off

ICandy Jogger with the rear wheels popped off

Quinny Buzz as above with the wheels

Easywalker Mini (like the Mosey) with the wheels on

Quinny Zapp 2 - the new version with the carrycot would fit too

I ended up getting a 500L eventually as I have other children who are lanky teens and needed the space. I still miss my car.

Through the boot, not lot!

Aprilislonggone · 07/10/2018 16:25

We had to post ds's car seat in via the boot!
*def didn't have ds in it (holds face straight)

We had both a Maxi Cosi and a Bee (though not a Fiat) and I would highly recommend both.

We have a Fiat 500C as a second car (same size as Fiat 500 I believe with a slightly less useful boot and smaller opening). We easily fit both a Babystyle Oyster2 Pushchair and GB Pockit Stroller in the boot at the same time with space to spare (in the picture). Alternatively an iCandy Peach also fits in there.

In the back we use a Graco nautilus highback booster car seat for the older child and Maxi-Cosi cabriofix baby car seat for the baby. No problems getting both in through the normal doors.

We’ve been happy with both pushchairs and car seats. The GB Pockit Stroller isn’t the most comfortable pushchair to push or probably sit in for long periods and not from newborn, but it’s so small it fits in hand luggage (and underneath the Oyster for toddlers who definitely want to walk then get tired...) so for occasional use, for us, it was definitely worth having as a back up.

Thank you very much for the people that read what I was asking for rather than those who have just told me to get a new car which was not was this was about Hmm

I appreciate all the tips and will check out the items mentioned above Smile

I know you don't want suggestions for a new car, but I struggled with two kids, two adults and a push chair in a VW polo! I would imagine the Fiat 500 being pretty tight. Just use the bigger car when out with DC.

ashvivienne · 09/10/2018 19:27

DDs friend has a Fiat 500 and one of the mamas and papas pushchairs (the flip xt or the ocarro) and has a cybex car seat with the base belted into the front seat.
