Fiat Punto Grande or Renault Clio? Straw Poll!

Which one would you buy? I have said I will make a decision today but I just keep shilly shallying they are so much of muchness!

They are both on for 1,495 pounds, both around 50 000 miles, both 4 owners, 3 door, both in good nick inside and out with no major work on the service history. Both petrol 1.2

Both are a little overpriced but that is because of the area we live in.

The fiat is 10 years old, spacious inside.
The Renault is 14 years old and feels a bit cramped. It has some nice features likea sunroof. I am not keen on the colour.

I keep reading reviews and safety tests etc and I can´t make up my mind.

How many people are you likely to carry in it? I think between the two I would be tempted by the Fiat. I do know Scenics of a similar age had a dashboard problem which meant that the entire display was redone, they should've been programmed back to the right mileage but quite a few were not. (I've seen many examples of it). If the Clio had a similar issue I would personally be very wary of it.

Sorry. I Should have said that the car is just for me and two younger kids and mainly to be used on short tirps around a small town.

I haven´t heard anything about a dashboard problem but I will have a google now!

I am tending towards the Punto. I am not quite sure why!

I love the Punto

margaritasbythesea · 29/09/2018 19:00

It felt really comfortable and easy to drive. I felt cramped in the Clio.

Fiat as it’s newer.

margaritasbythesea · 29/09/2018 19:31

Mmm that too

Neither, get a Micra or something else Japanese. Both of these cars WILL give you expensive grief, mark my words.

Knittedfairies · 29/09/2018 21:12

I had a Clio - it had no oomph at all.

margaritasbythesea · 29/09/2018 22:21

Thanks for your advice.

I would love to have more choice but I don´t think I do really, for a variety of reasons.

What did you go for? I had 2 Clio's, never again. Both had lots of problems, minor and major, and on both of mine the sunroof drove me mad creaking over every bump!

margaritasbythesea · 01/10/2018 14:47

Well phew! I got the Punto. Took it out for a spin this morning. It's certainly not powerful but so far I love it. Just what I wanted.

I think you made the right choice, it's newer if nothing else. Here's hoping it a good little car for you! (having a second hand car nightmare myself at the moment!)

margaritasbythesea · 01/10/2018 23:08

Thanks for your good wishes.

I hope your problems are resolved without too much expense.
