Problem with Car Seat - Seatbelt too long

DD needs to go into the second stage car seats - forward facing. Our Mazda Xedos, (8yrs old) is giving us huge problems as the buckle bit of the seat belt (the short bit) is too long (almost 3 - 4 inches). We need to get it shorterned. Impossible to get hold of Mazda, some garages said that car upholsterers can do it... has anyone else had to do this?

I would be wary of fiddling about with the seatbelts TBH. I don't think I'd ever be happy it had been done safely unless the actual maufacturer had done it.

(as an aside, I wanted to extend the buckle bit on my Laguna because it was too short to fit 3 seats across the back and still allow DSs to do the seatbelts up for their boosters! You can't win )

Problem solved. The Britax First Class has a "B routing" which means it caters for extra long buckles if you have them in your car. Seat now safely fitted. Thanks for your responses.
