IPhone X scratched

Had iPhone X less than a week and the glass front has a centimetre scratch. No idea how this has happened as the phone hasn't been dropped, knocked, etc. Looked at daughter's phone and she has the exact same sized scratch but in the back of hers, UNDERNEATH the protective case.

Is annoying and I can live with it but has anybody else experience this issue with this particular phone? Is this a known design fault?

Put in pocket with keys? That’s a likely culprit.

This is why I’ve got a glass screen protector and plastic case on mine. I’m not spending lots of money and then not protecting it.
The only way your daughters phone would get a scratch is if she’s taken the case off or got something gritty in the case when putting it on. It wouldn’t get scratched with the case on

No chance of being in a pocket or bag with anything. Am wracking my brains for the reason. Daughters must have had grit but again, a very low percentage chance of this even happening. If it gets worse I'll get fixed.

Well unless it has literally sat on your kitchen table, untouched by anyone then it will have got a scratch somehow if it wasn’t there when you opened the box.
A ring? A bracelet? When you’ve picked it up? It shouldn’t scratch that easily. Is it a very very light scratch or one you can feel?

@JuniperBeer one that I can feel with my nail. Is very bizarre as the phone had been treated very carefully. Just seems odd that both phones have the same type of scratch and exactly the same size. Daughter is an adult and is also very careful with her phone.

You need tempered glass screen protectors. V cheap and would have prevented this happening. I would have to get the screen repaired, it would torture me!

I am going to get a screen protector now (I know after the horse has bolted!). The scratch won't bother me but if it gets bigger it will!

DH and I have both had iPhone X’s since November, neither of us have screen protectors or cases on them.
Both our phones are scratch and damage free.
I don’t believe there are any design flaws that would cause a scratch.

my guess is you have both put your phone in/on something that has caused the scratches.

Found the culprit...hidden zip within my laptop rucksack! Will look to get it fixed a be more careful in the future. Thanks all for confirming that there's no design fault.
