Bumbo cutting off circulation in ds's legs!!! Anyone else had this?

I put my 4 month old ds in his new Bumbo baby seat today after a minute he started crying and within about 2 minutes his legs had turned bright red and when the redness went down (after about 10 minutes) I could see that there were loads of burst blood vessels all over his legs, that are now little purple pin pricks all over them. Obviously this is very disturbing - has anyone else had this. It says the seat is for 3-14 months, so although ds is indeed a bit large for his age, surely he can't be too big for it at only 18 weeks old??? Could I be putting him in it incorrectly?? Please help, I think they are such a super idea and am desperate for him to be able to use it as he is so happy when sitting up and watching his big sister play.

Thanks.

Ellaroo, I looked at one of these for DS but decided not to get one as the gaps for his legs looked too small (his are quite chunky) He was 5mths at the time and he definately wouldn't fit in one now (7.5mths and on solids, so even more chunky!)

ellaroo - a few mums I know thought their 4 month old/5 month old babies wouldn't fit in it! my 5 month baby does (though slightly on the small side for his age)

dd at 6 months is also a little on the chunky side and its a bit tricky getting her in and out of her bumbo cos her legs will get trapped and she'll lift up the bumbo seat along with her when I pick her up!!
but i've never had the burst blood vessel thing happen before!! that does sound scary

i've had the opposite problem and ds who is tall but quite slim was able from to from 5 months roll himself out of it because his legs were a bit too slim for the leg holes. In theory they are a good idea but I'm not convinced they are all they are cracked up to be.

ellaroo, mine is still too big for ds2, he is now 1!! I do remember some other mn's have the prob you described tho. there was a post a while back. I would write to manufactoe tho as they are meant to go up to 14mths. I think theyre meant to be a snug fit so baby stays put but what you described is unacceptable. did you put him in with bottom right up to back? that way his thighs would be out of leg holes ifygmd.
