I’m starting a new job in September which comes with a company car, and I’ve been asked for my preference between a Audi A3 and a Mercedes GLA. My current car is a 14 year old Picasso and before that I had a Corsa so I’m clearly not that interested in or knowledgeable about this stuff Grin I need to let them know next week what I want and I haven’t a clue.
If it helps I’ll be offended very based two days a week with a 35 mile commute each way then field based across the UK three days a week. What would you choose?

I would go for the A3

AornisHades · 05/08/2018 15:02

Ideally you could try and test drive one or both of them but there's probably not time to arrange that. I'd probably pick the Audi though.

noenergy · 05/08/2018 15:03

Mercedes for sure but Audi's are great as well. Lucky you to get such a great choice. Both are great to drive.

WinterBabyIsComing · 05/08/2018 15:49

If you know exactly what models check the MPG. You may also want to ask about the Benefit In Kind tax payable on each.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/08/2018 16:29

Thank you, unfortunately no chance to test drive as they want to get it ordered ASAP and I’m away. As far as I can work out the tax isn’t hugely different so wouldn’t sway my decision- frankly either way it’s going to be cheaper than the upkeep on my current rust bucket! 2/1 to the Audi so far then, my gut instinct was the Mercedes but I’m not sure why? Completely agree I’m lucky to have such a problem, there are far worse things I could be worrying about Smile

Try reading the WhatCar Guides for each one, they are usually pretty reliable.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/08/2018 19:46

winter I’m sure they’re useful but I have no knowledge of or interest in cars, I don’t know what a good MPG is etc. so I suspect the information would be wasted on me! Blush

They talk about all sorts cabin size, practicality, road noise etc. It would enable you to compare them given you can't test drive.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/08/2018 20:19

I’ll have a look thank you Smile

Are they classed as a benefit in kind as if one is more expensive than the other you could be paying more tax on it.

mrs2468 · 05/08/2018 20:59

Sorry just read your update I'd go with Mercedes

EnglishGirlApproximately · 05/08/2018 21:04

Ooh it’s 2/2 now, I’m veering towards the Mercedes but not sure why. I think I have a WAG image in my head when it comes to Audi’s, particularly as it’s likely to be white!

Is the Merc 4 wheel drive? If it is (and the A3 isn't) and you'll need to get out to work come what may then I could revise my answer if that helps :)

somewhereovertherain · 06/08/2018 17:47

Look at the tax value and mpg as will make a difference.

Out of those two id go for the Merc if the above isn’t significantly different.

Carcy · 07/08/2018 15:10

Definitely the A class.

It's just been relaunched as new car and is vastly superior to the previous A class. The interior is very striking and intuitive to use and the car is a much improved package.

The A3 by comparison is very plain and just a typical VAG car.
