Car that will fit 3 car seats in the back

Hi,

So we are looking for a car that will fit 3 car seats in the back - 2 X high back boosters (roughly 37cm wide each) and one rear facing seat (yet to be decided which seat). The 2 high back booster seats need to be next to each other (I appreciate it may be easier to fit the infant seat in the middle but that isn't possible due to baby having to be kept away from child with special needs so please don't suggest this as an option).

We have a Nissan Juke which is very small inside (barely room for the 2 children we have and hardly any boot space). We have looked up cars that will fit 3 car seats but we can't afford any of them and due to the mileage my husband does travelling to and from work we can't get higher purchase. Ideally around 5k is our budget but could stretch a little further but not much.

Would need to have considerable more boot space than the juke and cabin space. Also, needs to be diesel.

Does anyone know of a car that has a large (3 full size seats instead of 2.5 seats) bench seats? If anyone has pictures of their car with 3 seats in the back that would also be helpful.

We only found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago and are due in 10 weeks so not much time to save for a car especially with everything else we need to buy.

Thanks

Ford smax has three full seats all with isofix. We have 1 rear facing and two hbb and have the rear facing seat behind the passenger.

We've been starting to look for something similar and yes they are all quite expensive. The cheapest option generally seemed to be the Citroen c4 Picasso

my old Astra easily fitted 3 seat across the back, I now have a Mokka and there is no hope! Even the boot is smaller

We drive a Ford Galaxy, which is a 7 seater and runs on Diesel. Plenty of room for 3 car seats next to each other and the boot is huge when the 2 back seats are down.

I spent just over £4k on an 8 year old Ford Galaxy last year. Perfect size for you with 3 full size back seats and a great size boot if you are not using seats 6 & 7. It's diesel and had 100,000 miles on the clock but it's been great so far and is brilliant for our family. For £5k I reckon you could get an an SMax or a Galaxy about 6 years old with slightly less on the clock.

Second Ford Galaxy. You can move seats around so fully separating children. I tend to put the loudest child furthest away in the back! Also you can remove individual seats to make it into 5 seater plus masses of boot space.

Our VW touran is great - fits 3 X isofix in the middle row, you do need to be a bit careful with measuring and not going for some of the crazy wide seats out there, but we've successfully fit seats suitable for 3 under 5.

On diesel - are you sure? They are increasingly cracking down on these, including potential bans in some cities, they're not necessarily as cheap or as green as we were told a few years back. This does mean you can buy them a lot cheaper right now, but there's a reason!

Meant to say - galaxy / Sharan are great if you have tons of space, we like the touran for still not being too enormous, it's a 7 seater but same footprint as a sedan, so easier to manage in cities, small towns etc

Our Citroen C4 Picasso Grand has 3 isofix points across the back so can fit 3 car seats. Haven’t tried it myself as only have 2 kids at this point, sorry! Love the car though, so so spacious.

PotteringAlong · 31/07/2018 15:07

We’ve had 2 - a c4 grand picasso and a discovery 3. Both got all 3 of ours easily across the back and now we have 2 in HBB there’s so much more space again.

PotteringAlong · 31/07/2018 15:08

Also, very randomly, you can get 3 across the back of a Nissan pulsar but this doesn’t seem to be advertised anywhere! We did this by having a HBB in the middle.

We've got a Grand C-Max and can get 3 car seats in the back (not iso-fix though, using the seatbelts) including a rear faced, then the Group 1-4 behind the passenger seat. It's a bit of a pain to get the seatbelts done up on the HBBs, but doable, and has the advantage that as the seats are close together, the children can't undo them whilst driving.

We have a Renault grand scenic and it's three separate seats. They also recline in the same way as the regular front seats which I've found handy when my ds falls asleep in his hbbooster.
