When to move to forward facing carseat?

DD is 13 month. She now weighs just under 21 lbs so is heavy enough for forward facing carseat, however, is still fitting in her rear one quite comfortably. Do I wait until she physically can no longer fit in her rear facing carseat, or do I go ahead and buy the forward one now because she'll need it anyway.

Are there any benefits on keep her in the rear facing one for as long as possible?

It is safer for children to be in a rear facing childseat. DS was in his until at least 15 months I think.

Yes she is safe in rear facing. Everyone in car is safer rear facing - but unfortunately its not that practical.

Frontal crashes are most common - and because of the physics of momentum and the crash it is best to have you spine facing the point of impact.

Leave her in her rear facing for as long as her weight allows (check you rear facing seat instructions) and as long as she is comfortable. She will have to move at some point but the later the better.
