Need a bigger motor and this one seems to fit the bill. I am not a car person but am currently obsessing about the god damm things! I'd be v.grateful if any Zafira owners can let me have the lowdown on this particular car. Thankyou.

What do you want to know?

My Mam is on her second one and loves them.
Main problem is that with 7 seats in there is very little boot space.Best thing is when you fold the seats down you can fit masses of stuff in !

Croaky · 26/05/2007 19:40

Oh Mrs, just wanna know if they're reliable. I think that's my main concern. I've got a vw golf at the mo. and we've hardly had any problems with it. Only a family of four but we've got loadsa 'stuff' and extra friends n' grandparents nearby so thought it'd be ideal.

Look at the Ford S-max too. It's basically the Ford Zafira Remeber that neither are proper 7 seaters. They are 5 seaters with 2 occasional seats in the "boot".

Honest John is meant to be good for information.

got a zafira, and twice in 9 months the ignition has got stuck on and burnt out the starting motor resulting in breaking down about a mile from home with absolutely no power.

garage had heard of it happening before but never twice in one car!!!!

Apart from that fine, economical as well, get about 300 miles to the tank.

my mechanic really rates them for being reliable as they are basically an astra engine with a larger body - so they've been around for decades and tweaked to perfection IYSWIM

SoupDragon · 26/05/2007 20:44

I'm with Fio. S-Max much sexier

Having sat in my brother's, it doesn't seem to be very comfortable either. He's happy with it though.

Hmmm this is very interesting. I totally agree the S Max is miles more stylish but we haven't got the cash for one. We're gonna be buying this car second hand. And Yep the Zafira is common but then again so am I! Honestly don't care too much about how it looks just want it to start up and get me about with minimum hassle. Sounds quite reliable from what most of you are saying. Thanks for your thoughts.

We bought a second hand Zafira last year (a 52 reg, so not terribly ancient) and have had nothing but problems with it. Randoms lights keep appearing on the dashboard, forcing me to take it to the garage once every few weeks or so. I've had to replace the brakes (front and back), timing belt and countless other things. It won't be long before the damn bloody thing has a brand new engine at this rate!!!

I might just be unlucky with this particular piece of shite though, you might have one which is perfect. I had a Corsa once and it was fab!

PrincessPeaHead · 26/05/2007 21:47

they have a really bad reliability rating.

vw tourans do the same job but are rock solid on the reliability front. maybe have a look at them? I've just bought an 04 with 26kmiles for 9,500

Croaky · 26/05/2007 22:34

Right...will bear this all in mind. Unfortunately the VW Touran is gonna be out of our price range.

We've had one for 18 months.

I don't like it, but so far reliable.
