BT Line Rental - Do I have to have it?

Basically I'm being charged £28.07 for line rental only and just discovered today that they charge me £4.50 for paying with a credit card online

Can I get my line rental elsewhere?
(I get my calls through Tesco currently)

If you get another provider for your pc to cover broadband, you can get them to take over the line rental and you only pay the other provider and not BT direct, its the same price though but you don't have to make two payments

I kicked off about this too. They are charging all those who pay by cheque a processing fee of £4.50 even though, by their own admittance, it only costs 50p to process a cheque.

Once again it smacks of high corporations picking on the poor to make another easy buck. It's only those on short term contracts or who struggle to make ends meet that pay by cheque because they need to wait until they are sure there is enough money in the bank to cover it.

I am furious about it and will look into changing my phone company. I'm sure you can do this now.

I have already written to BT to complain and there is a letter you can download from the Watchdog site to send to them.

Thanks Rhubarb I'll do that now!

hang on a minute, its not just BT!

does this mean if I top up my Orange mobile I'll be charged an extra £4.50?
